I've given some shit to those who roll heavy in the towing forum before. Time for you guys to return the favor. Anyone got a weight ticket to beat the one I got last weekend at the landscaping yard? Green is empty, red is loaded with 1.19 tons of topsoil :eek2:

I wouldn't recommend doing this regularly with a 1/2 ton pickup. YMMV.

Towing at 9000# is different from carrying 9000#

I used to tow a 2,000 # GVWR HF trailer with my Element. I went to the gravel pit and asked for a "light ton". The gross weight came in a 3660#. I went real slow that 4 miles to get home.

Hopefully you didn’t kill the rear axle.

I think the axle is fine. After I shoveled everything out everything seemed to return to normal.

Never done it. Wouldn’t recommend it. But I don’t think the rear axle is the limiting factor to the trucks carrying capacity. @Jowett posted something about the axle’s true capacity being significantly higher than the 4150 lb rating according to the people who build it.

But you may be looking at bearings sooner than others. (Like @ 300k instead of 800k :D)

Rear axle isn’t a full float design so the axle shaft has torque from the load applied to it which can cause them to bend and eat bearings. Not the same as a HD truck design…
