UPDATE: I decided not to buy this truck after having a pre-purchase inspection done. Problems: Cam tower starting to leak, water pump leaking some coolant, engine check light: exhaust issue that needs further diagnosing, cracked windshield, bad tire sensors.

I've been looking to buy a second gen RCSB 5.7 4X4 for a while now and they are not easy to come by. I found a 2008 RCSB 5.7 4x4 SR5 TRD with the rare bench seat in a TRD SR5 with 162k miles in Missouri at a Ford dealership that was just brought in today on trade for a new Ford Bronco. It is a one owner, no accidents, used for personal, and 100% maintained with all service records from brand new to serviced just last month (44 records!) at the same Toyota dealership it was purchased at in MO. The last service showing on Carfax is an inspection and oil/filter change just last month at the same Toyota dealership. I contacted that Toyota dealership and they know the truck and said the owner used to work there. The parts dept verified the truck does in fact have the TRD off-road package from the VIN# I gave them.

The pics the salesman provided from his phone sent to me via text shows no dents but dirty, they didn't even get a chance to wash it. He did send pics of the underbody and it appears ok with just little bit of surface rust. They offered it to me for $12,500 + $500 doc fee = $13k. I accepted the offer put a $500 refundable deposit on it but requested they take it to the Toyota dealership for a pre-purchase inspection on Monday.

KBB has this truck package average dealer priced at $9,842 to $12,437, avg = $11,140. However, because there are so few RCSB they are charging much higher prices for them.
If the pre-purchase inspection shows any issues I will have them fix it or request to reduce the price as long as it is not a serious problem which I doubt seeing as how it was just brought in for inspection and an oil/filter change last month.

I did not know you can get a SR5 TRD package with a bench seat, first time I ever saw that. I actually prefer the bench seat so you can add a third passenger and have extra room in the cabin.

Do you think I should buy this truck? I know 162k is no big deal on these trucks if well maintained, I see many of them for sale with 200k-300k+ miles. There is another one for sale at a local Toyota dealership that is a clean 2013 RCSB 5/7 4x4 with 79k miles but no TRD and has a bench seat, this truck was used with a plow (has plow controls inside but no plow on front) and they will not budge below 23K OTD. It has a big scratch on the glove box and little bit of surface rust on the under carriage. I did test drive it and it drove like a new truck but it is priced too high, KBB avg for dealer sale is 21k. However, most sellers want top dollar for the RCSB because they are rare and only a few for sale nationwide but most of them for sale are trash.

Any feedback would be appreciated. This has been a long tiresome search. I could have got the same truck in a 2010 with only 107k miles for 14k but the sorry dealer sold it underneath me, I'm still pissed off about that.

Btw, this truck will be used as a personal fun truck that won't be used that much. I'd like to get a Project M camper for the back with some airbags and maybe get some leaf springs and shocks upgrade. I will put on some aftermarket headlights and maybe some new wheels and tires along with a new stereo head unit and speakers. I'll maybe take a few trips a year. I doubt if I would put on 3k miles a year, so a high mileage truck is no big deal to me as long as it was well maintained and this truck appears to be one.

Sounds like it’s what you have been waiting for. Seems like a fair price since it’s from dealer, almost always higher then blue book in my experience. Literally can’t ask for a better carfax than that, every record at same dealer one owner. I would go for it if it’s the truck you have been looking for.

Yeah if this was a private owner I could probably get it down to 10k but dealers have overhead and need more profit to survive so it is understandable to charge a higher price. They actually had it initially listed at $13,900.
However, he said the engine check light was on and the code said exhaust. So we'll see what that entails in the pre-purchase inspection at the Toyota dealership on Monday, I doubt if it is serious but they will have to fix it whatever it is.

I was really looking for something in low 100k miles range for about the 15k or less range but that has not been an easy task, most of the few I've found had an accident, checkered history on Carfax, rusted frame , the inspection showed problems, etc. Like you said I couldn't ask for a better Carfax report. I mean the Carfax literally shows the truck was serviced about every 5k miles or so at the very same dealership the owner bought it from. This is the cleanest Carfax I've ever seen in my life so far. I'll give an update on Monday. if I buy it I'll post more pics when I get it in my hands.

If I was going to pay 23k for an ‘08 with 160k that high above blue book I would expect the exterior paint to be showroom condition and practically not a speck of surface rust on frame. Service hx looks good but it’s your cash
Nvm I thought this one was 23k and wouldn’t budge. Doesn’t seem Too bad for what you’ve been looking for

The $23k truck is for a 2013 RCSB Stock grade 4x4 5.7 (non-TRD) with 68k miles, pretty clean exterior but it had a control inside for a snow plow that concerned me and light surface rust on the undercarriage. However, it drove like a brand new truck but it had a big ol deep scratch on the glove box door. But they would not budge below 23k, KBB says 21k max for a dealer. I offered 21K OTD but they wouldn't even text me back. lol They initially had the truck priced at 24K and gave me a 30K price OTD, I politely laughed and walked out then they called me a week later and said they'd take off a few hundred. lol Dealerships are irritating to deal with. I bet that truck brand new in 2013 wasn't even 30k. Toyota trucks hold their resale value well but not that well. Sheesh.

We'll see how this 2008 pans out on Monday with the inspection at the Toyota dealership.

Thanks! it is even tougher mission finding a proper RCSB. Most of the few for sale are no good. And the good ones are sold in 0.2 seconds.

Yeah they look sick lowered but I plan on doing a 4x4 truck camper build to go off the beaten path and truck camp out in the wilderness.

Question: Would you avoid buying a 2013 Tundra that was used with a snow plow but only has 79k miles? From my understanding using a plow is hard on the transmission. I'd hate to buy and end up with transmissions issues down the line.

I personally would not buy a truck for personal use that has been used for plowing regardless of miles. Unless cheap work truck that I plan to be hard on for work as well. rather have high highway miles

That 2013 rcsb 4x4 is at Toyota dealer close to me but that has been sitting there for a long time now. They keep calling me but won't budge on the price much below 23k which is crazy to me when kbb for that truck is 19k - 21k. It has a snow plow control inside but I did test drive it and drove like a new truck. So I guess I'll stick with the 162k mile 2008 one owner rcsb 4x4 TRD with a clean carfax as long as the pre-purchase inspection checks out tomorrow. I'm praying this truck works out ok. I want to get cracking on a truck build already.

UPDATE: I decided not to buy this truck after having a pre-purchase inspection done. Problems: Front cover and Cam housing is starting to seep oil, water pump leaking some coolant, engine check light: exhaust issue that needs further diagnosing, cracked windshield, bad tire sensors.

I understand why the owner traded it in for a new vehicle. Carfax showed he just had it checked last month at the same Toyota dealership so I'm sure he was aware of these issues and decided to get rid of it before dealing with expensive repairs. The oil leak from the cam housing would cost about $2200, water pump $750 and I'm sure the exhaust problem will be costly as well. The sales guy tried to bs me and say these are minor issues. haha

Ha yeah. Thats the thing. If my truck was starting to have stuff pop up and I was already kicking around the idea of getting something new, I would do the exact same thing instead of fixing it. To dealer though as trade in, not private sale.

At that price I would rather buy @STravis SCSB built and supercharged.
