Just passing along to save you guys a large amount of money. I went to the UPS store to ship a box from Fl to Tennessee. They quoted $229 for the cheapest ground service. I took the same box to a UPS hub this morning...shipped for $69.

It may depend on the size or weight. I just shipped a part I sold on TW and it was the same price either way. All I know is shipping is getting crazy high if you don't have volume discounts.

It was the same box. The UPS store is an independent business separated from UPS.

I read this somewhere. UPS workers (delivery guys) were receiving comlaints about the UPS store and delivery. They made a comment that UPS store has nothing to do with UPS (operations wise), they just lease the name and act as a drop off location. He was pretty pissed because it caused quite a few problems and arguments.

I've had nothing but shipping problems for just about everything I've ordered the past 6 months. Doesn't matter if it's UPS, USPS or FedEx. Funny that UPS is just today admitting to the problem.

I simply have heavy items shipped to our loading dock at work. Easy peasy.

I understood. What I meant to say was that perhaps for smaller packages there may not be much of a difference. I'm just guessing based on the recent experience I had vs. your experience.

I always thought the UPS store business model was they charge customers the low volume retail rate while they pay the high volume discount rates and make money on the spread. I looked at buying a UPS store ( I think it was UPS) a long time ago.

I use the UPS store to drop off pre-paid returns and some photo copies, but everything I ship out for business goes through the USPS. I use the UPS hub for larger items.

I use a UPS store for my business and have a box there where I can get mail.
They will send and receive for me no matter how huge and heavy the item and will sign if needed and inspect for damage before they do.
The stores are Franchises and use the UPS favored rate when they can and are usually a little more expensive to ship with than going into a UPS Hub directly bit they are competitive enough for me and provide a lot more service and this is worth paying for to me.

If you got such an insane price difference from them I would first suspect an honest mistake really and I would talk it over with them and usually they will find and correct it to keep you going based on my actual experience or they will tell me to go to the Hub if not.

This is a terrible time for them honestly and I am not about to throw them under the Bus based on this one reported issue.

The UPS Stores have always been a total rip off.
