I like the stock look. Don’t like all the rake. I think 1” lift up front might be a good compromise. How do I do this? A shim on top of stock suspension? 2013 4x4 Base

Yes a shim/spacer will work, although another option would be an adjustable shock but will cost more then the shim/spacer.

I just thought that a shim would be such a negligible impact on ride quality that I wouldn’t notice it since it’s small. I don’t want to go to a spacer for that reason.

Isn't a shim and a spacer the same thing? Just a piece of metal that gets installed between the shock and the frame?

yes your right, you probably won't notice anything different with a 1 inch spacer/shim. (shim is a slang word to avoid using the word spacer, lol)
I use a 1 inch spacer with my lift.

The lift from a shim is a 1:2 ratio. So, a .5" shim will give you 1" of actual lift.
