So I unplugged my battery so I can get the check engine light and the parking emergency braking off.
I had debris fly up hit my grill and broke my grill shutters, so I replaced the grill and grill shutters, the grill shutters warning went away but still had check engine light on. Anyways, unplugging the battery got rid of tiny lights, now as I'm driving its shifting hard into second gear, does unplugging the battery delete and software updates? I would assume no. I do know that the transmission will relearn my driving habits but I never had it shift hard.
    Any advice will be great.
    Thanks

So unfortunately our trucks are like driving a computer. They are so advanced trust me I’ve had my share of problems over the last 23 years of owning Tundras that it’s best to have the dealer run diagnostics check on it. The one thing I know is it is not always a good thing to disconnect the battery like we used to. I had some problems on my 22 and fortunately I have a friend who is a 30 year veteran of Toyota and he told me not to disconnect the battery.

I have had some problems that were resolved by Toyota but I can tell you I have had a Toyota Engineer connect his laptop to my Tundra.

Take your Tundra back to the dealership and let them see what’s going on. I get you want to fix it yourself, I’m the same way but unfortunately our trucks are computers on wheels.

Ya, my service guy said it should go off after a couple drives, when my grill shutters broke g there was no codes right away, it was 2 or 3 times of me starting the truck and driving for the codes to come up. I did 2 drives after I fixed the grill shutters and the that went away but check engine stayed on. I was probably inpatient. So you think my truck lost its software update?

Disconnecting the battery clear learning/adaptation on the engine and transmission computers. It’ll relearn after some time so the shifts will get smoother.

EDIT: As a note, it doesn’t learn your “driving behavior”. The transmission learns the fluid characteristics of the ATF to smooth out the shifts.

Thank you so much for that clarification. So I am going to wait it out. No reason to go see my dealer?

The dealer will probably say the same if you mention that the battery was disconnected.

If it's shifting hard, that's a reason to take it in. If it's under warranty, why in the world would you not get an issue addressed?

I'm at 41k, I do have the extended warranty plus I believe doing those updates falls under the powertrain warranty. I messaged my service advisor in sure he'll get back to me tomorrow.

Transmission would be under the powertrain warranty. Hard shifts may not have anything to do with the battery either. That's the big reason to get it in, rather than assuming or hoping that it's something simple or related to the battery.

Fingers crossed it's something simple and quick for them to diagnose/fix!

Ya you're right. My service advisor has been great to work with so it won't hurt to bring it in.
