Well it looks like I will have to jump over to the Gen 3 sub forum soon.

I was gone on a short business trip last week and upon my return I walked up into the "secure" parking garage at the airport, where I had left my beloved truck, only to find an empty parking space! WTF!!! Some rat bastards stole my truck! It is unbelievable to me how this could happen! I have no hope that it will be recovered. This kind of thing is done by pros and I am sure it was on a boat somewhere abroad shortly after being taken. I am gutted! She was my pride and joy. Mint. Not a mark on her and setup just perfect. Had her for just over 2 years with only 20k km on her (that's 12k miles for my US friends).

Of course the truck can be replaced but due to lead times etc my entire camping season is screwed. Just sucks!

My reflections on this experience are:
    1) Don't park you car at airport parking lots. Take a taxi or limo service. It's not worth the risk. Especially in these times where Tundras are almost literally worth their weight in gold.
    2) After the free trial period is up pay the $10/month to keep the SOS connected service going. If I had they would have been able to locate it and probably recover it.
    3) Keep your smart key in a faraday pouch. Only take it out when using it. Not 100% sure this would have helped in my case but wouldn't hurt. I do keep it in a faraday box at home but always figured when out and about surely no one is setup and has time to pick up my key signal and use it. Guess I was wrong. :(

So long my beauty! You will be missed....

Pour one out for Tumbler’s Tundra. Beautiful rig gone too soon.

I like to rent a cheap econo car, drop it off at the airport, and rent another at the airport to get back home. All reserved ahead of time, of course.

Did you explain to the cops that Toyota has a connection to the truck at all times? Even if you don't pay for regular service, I think they are guilty of obstruction if they have capability and refuse to use it in this situation. Push the issue.

Check the build link in my signature.
I thought that even though you didn't pay the SOS, Toyota still has an obligation to provide the tracking data to authorities if they are actively investigating the theft. Even though YOU didn't pay to continue the service, TOYOTA is still tracking your vehicle with it. If they didn't provide that data, wouldn't that be obstruction of justice?
Not that it would help anyway - like you said, that thing was inside of a faraday-cage container and on a boat overseas within hours, or had the head unit tracking unit nuked before it ever left the parking lot.

According to the connected service group once the subscription to the service expires the DCM in the truck is disabled and is not tracked. In order to re-enable it you have to be in the truck and push the button. At least this is what they told me. After I found that the truck was gone I re-enrolled in the subscription but they could not activate the GPS location. This may have been a result of the thieves having already nuked the system. I don't know. What I do know is that she is long gone. :( The app did display the last known status which was at 3:17am the day I got back which again may have been when they nabbed it or when they nuked it, either way I guess I am shopping for a new one.

This really sucks very sorry to hear.

So you think someone scanned your key signal as you were parking at the airport? As if parked in a nearby car also in airport parking lot? If so they really took a chance waiting to steal until the day you were returning from your trip

We have used family trailers and rented a few. Really excited to bring our own home. A little nervous about tongue weight at 635+.

No worries. You will have no problem. My tongue weight was higher than that. Running the numbers and calculations for me, my family and the way we pack the trailer we were within (only just) all the rated numbers.

Yes I believe so. Not sure how else they could do it. They need to be able to clone your key signal in order to do anything with the truck which requires them to be within reasonable proximity to your key but can be as far away as 100m or more from what I understand. I am sure they saw me, followed me to my parking spot, cloned my key while they parked in another parking spot somewhere on the same level, then boosted my truck some hours later. I bet they troll the parking lots daily looking for high resale value vehicles. What's worse is I forgot my sunglasses in the truck after getting into the terminal so I went back to get them. They must have waited a while after I left before they got to work. Thieving a$$hats.

I am sure that last update I got the same day I returned was when it made its final move onto a boat. Just my guess though.

Thanks all for listening and your support. Actually does help. I have been in a right pissy mood since this happened. In addition to stealing my truck and my camping season I have lost about $20k or so equity that I had into that lease.

    this is a total bummer.

I wouldn’t be so sure that this wasn’t an “inside” job either. I would try and recover any video footage from the week you were gone. If there isn’t a direct camera on the isle you were parked at, at least get a video of when it left maybe get images outside the airport.

This has been happening more in parking lots than a lot of people think. While heading into shopping mall/grocery store/professional game…etc these thieves have a couple hour head start on you before even noticed. Then the police are notified and then that process all starts. By that time, a rather large head start is had.

Probably a good then you don’t get it back anyway. You know the saying “drive it like you stole it…”. In this case, sounds like Pro’s and this is a business to them. Trashing a free high dollar vehicle is not in their best interest.

Airport parking garages record all vehicles going in and out to include scanning license plates (its how they prevent fraud from folks who might "lose" their parking ticket or try to use one from a different/shorter date/time) usually along with several cameras inside. They should know exactly when your vehicle left, along with having video of other folks that were going in/out both when you got there and when it was stolen. Overall, its a bad place to try to steal a vehicle.

That’s what I’ve always thought when parking at an airport. They don’t care about stolen cars and break ins, but theres got to be alot of cameras around the airport in case of any other types of incidents.

Sucks, OP. I agree with the others saying to push for the security footage. Never know what you might find.

For any others reading this and worrying about having your key fob remotely cloned, if you hold down lock and push unlock twice, the little red light will blink 4 times, and your fob will be completely turned off. It turns back on the next time you push any button on it. Might be a good idea to do this every time you park overnight or for extended periods in trouble areas. And if you keep your extra fob at home, it should be shut off as well.

I shut off both fobs when at home. Seems like a good habit. A neighbor a couple streets over had her car stolen from her driveway. I think our neighborhood is at a higher risk for auto theft because we are very close to two interstates. Easy getaway.

    That's really unfortunate.

Fuel pump relay cutoff/remote for the win. Those of us who've had our trucks pilfered know. They'd have to tow it to take it..
