So I have a question, my 2010 sequoia needed a shift solenoid . I replaced it and changed fluid. I spilled some so the replacement method was off the table. I understand the temperature method for the level but what I don't understand is how capacities can be different?? Toyota made 1000's of my 5.7 -AB60E- TOW PACKAGE. why isn't there a standard fill (capacity)?
    Thanks for any response.

They had to make the forums go crazy with all the how to drain atf...
It all depends on what work was done and what was drained. The pan usually holds 2.2 quarts. Drop the valve body and you'll get about another 2.8 quarts. Install a new torque converter and that's another 6.5 quarts. I do a full drain/refill every 30k.

Standard fill is using the temperature method. It’s the most accurate way to get the right amount of WS ATF in the transmission. Things evolve. This process is one of those things. It’s really not that hard to do. If you were starting with an empty transmission, brand new, there is a specific amount of fluid to put in. When you do a drain and fill, the amount that comes out may vary, if any has leaked out, or if it wasn’t properly filled last time can all affect how much needs to go back in. It’s right when the process is followed. All new non-dipstick having transmissions use this same method.
