my 2007sr5 started acting like the transmission was slipping in reverse, especially when on a hill or loaded. Eventually got to the point it would not move. Was told it was probably reverse sensor. Took to a reputable transmission. shop for repair.Shop owner said sensor was inside transmission and due to the design of the transmission case it was easier to replace transmission than tear into it.Had them replace transmission with a used one. After a few weeks and less than 1000 miles same problem deveopes. Now truck is back in shop, and has been for several weeks.Shop says they don't think the problem is the transmission but can't find cause of problem. any similar experience or suggestion?

How is the condition of the ground wiring to the body? Where is your original transmission? Are you 100% sure the shop did anything?

So, you're saying the shop went for the most expensive part without probing anything else?? I'm going to take a SWAG at this and say they probably just charged you and didn't replace anything... Like @audiowize is saying....

I sure would be having a very close look at the bell housing bolts on your transmission. They should either be new or there should be obvious marks where sockets would have slipped on to remove said nuts. If you have a 4x4, it should be really obvious that the transfer case was removed as well. It's also pretty tough to install a new AT without filling it full of nice, clean bright pink WS fluid, so if you let a little fluid drip out of the overflow tube and it's dark, it would be reasonable to ask for a refund.

There are only three possibilities I can think of.

    1. You're one unlucky SOB and the new transmission has the same problem the old one did. I would give this a 1/1000 probability of being true.
    2. You're one unlucky SOB and the transmission shop dumped a bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix into your automatic and charged you thousands of dollars for that, gambling that it would keep you happy past the warranty period. I would give this a 997/1000 probability of being true.
    3. There's an issue external to the transmission causing your problem. Because the issue was intermittent, then constant, I would give this a 2/1000 probability of being true.

There are a huge number of transmission problems resolvable by replacing the valve body. This does not require pulling the transmission, nor does it require all that much labor, but you'd really need to know what's gone wrong before even making that commitment.

If you had your truck, you could try to cycle between D and R 3 to 5 times and see if it engages and hopefully will spit you out a code... if you disconnect the battery then you will need a tech stream to search for stored codes..
