So the question is how do I keep scumbag thieves from stealing this monster ?

Remove it when not in use.
Store in the cab or locked in a toolbox

I've got a bag full of them in my under seat storage. I hate thieves.

 

I suppose some bearing and stud retainer on the threads will keep random jagoffs from taking it.

 

Oooooh interesting, didn't know these existed. Use in combination with a soft shackle so that you never actually have to remove it when in recovery mode.

 

Besides a lock, you could jam-nut the piss out of it. Don't tighten the nut against the receiver, just snug. That way the jam-nut will still spin the bolt and they'll need at least 2 pairs of pliers to get them off. A lock is always better but I used this on equipment all around my grandpa's farm growing up. Locks didn't always fit everything but 3/4 threaded rod and some nuts were plentiful and could secure just about any piece of equipment/gate/door out there

 

I would be concerned using a locking pin. Has it been load rated?
The one shown above has the joint in the middle, which is the worst possible location.
For the shackle you show, the threads look like they were cut into the pin, meaning the mating bores on the shackle are different sizes between the smooth bore and thread bore.
This would create looseness if a common diameter through pin.

 

This will at least slow them.

 

Wow almost a hundred dollars for 2 pins?! I think I paid like 26 dollars for both my shackles. I’d hate remove and reinstall when I need them because they are a really tight fit with the rubber isolating washers that Came with them.

 

Cut a perfect cut out of your shackle in the foam under your back seat. Store it there. No rattle.

Polyethylene, polyurethane convoluted foam works without cutting your seat foam. It’s pretty inexpensive.

 

I cut out my foam and have the ESP under seat storage there. In those is where I keep some stuff. The shackles are wrapped in between my gloves. So in order to get my shackles I have to put my gloves on. But if you do not want to do that much cutting you could just cut out a spot for your shackles and be done with it.

 

Good if he doesn't have to remove it. If I remember correctly, you will have to heat it with a torch to remove the bolt.

 

Terrible idea. Bow shackles need to me removed in various recovery situations to attach other recovery gear, like a bridle for example. Store them in a recovery bag with the rest of your recovery equipment in the truck. If you don't have other recovery equipment then why are you attaching bow shackles?

You should also consider soft shackles instead of bow shackles. Much safer than bow shackles because they have very little kinetic energy in the event of a failure.

I see so many trucks in my area wearing those things like jewelry.

Storing it is the best option, but store it securely. You don't want one of those loose in your truck if you have a bad enough accident or roll your truck. I have a pet peeve about loose subwoofer boxes in cabs for the same reason.

 

OP has a 2021, somebody on where was looking to sell the inbed locking storage from a 2021 trail edition I wonder if they would bolt on.
