Looking for a used topper for my 2008 crew max. I’ve found a semi local Leer in my color but the seller said it was installed on a 2020.

Will a topper from a newer truck fit the older bed? I’ve seen threads about older tops not fitting the beds/tailgates of newer trucks. Never the other way around.

The newer one will be 1.5" too long for the bed on your truck.
The tailgate thickness is the difference and because a standard flip up back window on a shell needs to index against the tailgate to shut and lock usually this can be an issue for sure.

Going the other way with an older shell on a newer truck can be easily dealt with but unless the one you are looking at is not a standard flipping back window I dont think it will work.

I took my ARE cap off my 2010 and tried to put it on my 2018 and, like others said, it was about 2”-4” too short due to the wider tailgate. It wouldn’t close. However, the other way around (2.5 to 2 Gen) it will be too long. It’ll close but you’ll have a gap where water or thieves will be able to get in.

    Thanks all for the information.
Sometimes I really dislike my 08.

If anyone is looking, in Nashville someone has a Leer silver sky topper off of a 2020 for super cheap. Facebook market place

    I’ll keep hunting
