That thing drives me nuts. If I'm driving around a jobsite or the shop, I'm not putting on my belt. I'm in and out. On my Ford's its always been an option, including my 2018 f350. I may get under and look at how the circuit works and install a bypass under the seat for my uses. Its gotta be pretty simple

My Bullydog has the option to turn it off but doesn't seem to work. My old Taco had the same issue, but I was able to get a dealership to turn it off. Not sure if they will do it on my Tundra but I'm sure as hell gonna try. Drives me CRAZY!

I picked up a couple gadgets off eBay for a couple $$'s each. Look like the seat belt buckle with a flat handle. When I want the chime to stay off, I just put in the fake belt. Works great when I have a bunch of junk in the passenger seat.

Last time I was at the dealership for a recall, I asked if they could disable that chime. They said they could, but it was going to be some silly amount of money for such a simple operation so I declined. Frustrating, I wish I'd have worked it into the deal when I bought the truck.

Since it's in the owner's manual, my dealership said no prob. I looked at all the options, made a list (disable chime was #1), and they did them all in one shot... No charge. They even said if I ever wanted to change anything, just ask, they would never charge me.

I bought the Carista module on Amazon and used the app from my phone.

In researching it I saw where somebody had removed a spring in the latch mechanism.

Can you elaborate on “ since it’s in the owners manual “? Does it mention that the dealer can disable it or is there a list of dealer settings? Thanks

There’s a list of customizable settings that the dealer is supposed to change for you. Mine refused when I bought it so I did it myself, then left bad reviews about them, contacted Toyota, then the dealers service manager called me and apologized and said they can and would change that in the future. Evidently Toyota contacted them about my gripe...

Dealer told me it would be like $100 to make the change. I forget how much, but it seemed unreasonable for the task.

I spent $20 for the carista module and app (before I knew the dealer could/should do it), and it took a total of like 4 minutes for me to open the app for the first time, connect to the module through blue tooth, find the setting in it and turn it off.

    $100 is robbery.

You could go to a wrecking yard and buy a used seat belt... cut the strap off the handle off and plug it into the housing.
