Anyone here using a Scangage II for monitoring their Gen3? I kept mine when I sold the Taco - used it for daily use and towing to keep an eye on Trans Pan and Converter temps, Coolant Temp and Alternator output. Plan on doing the same on the Tundra. Manufacturer says it will work for the Gen3 without issue and they sent a link to additional codes for other PID's.

Yup, I moved the SG2 from my Tacoma to the Tundra in January when I bought the Tundra. Works fine. I can't recall which xcodes I had to program for the trans temp but it works. IIRC there is only one trans temp available but not 100% sure.

Trans temp is nice. How about real time boost psi?

I know it will measure boost as long as the vehicle ecu monitors it - the coding was there for it so I'll have to program it up and see how many psi of boost it shows.

Where are you guys mounting them? I saw the link in the other oil pressure thread. Looks interesting.

I will be checking mine, too, to see if boost is one of the standard selectable parameters or one that needs to be programmed via an xgauge code. But if, so, would it be left or right or is there place to tap a common boost pressure... perhaps MAP would be a good facsimile?

BTW, my signature could be exactly like yours... bed mat, Fumoto valve, cat shield. The extent of my mods... well, I also have an aftermarket dash cam.

Don't need anything fancy or complicated... I just mount mine on the steering column with some double sided tape. I'll post a pic later.

Here is a photo of my SG2 mounted on steering column. I also looked for a Boost gauge in there and there was none in the native gauge offerings and the Boost xgauge I programmed using this » Boost Pressure (PSI) (scangauge.com) didn't work.

I mounted mine in the same spot but, I used magnets glued to the Sacn gauge and then glued magnets under the column from the inside. I can remove it whenever I want without marks.

It was an xgage code. Think it had measurements in PSI and BARs or something like that. I still have mine in memory bank, I hope, unless I somehow deleted it. I need an aftermarket dash cam so spill the beans, please. TIA.

just saw this, your, post. Well if boost is codable and not working I wonder if the SC needs a software update to read it ? will check with manufacturer and see what they say. It was the Toyota/Lexus for V6 they sent me a link to - as you referenced.

Have you experienced any temps above normal while towing with the scangauge. Thats what I would be interested in most to justify purchasing one. I pulled 7500lb camper with no issues but would have been nice to have one traveling through Tennessee.

Towing temps are the exact reason I purchased mine when I had the Taco and will use it for the Tundra. The Taco had a tow package with external cooler - I ran sub 190 (trans converter) when towing up grade. I am still learning about the Tundra Tow Package - if it is the same, and has a thermostat that can be "pinned open" during tow season that is what I will do and would recommend. They can monitor lots of other critical elements - I'd say you could certainly justify one if you are interested in knowing about oil temp, fluid temps, alternator power output, and many other elements. They also identify and can clear dtc's.

I assume oil pressure can be monitored. Can it and have you noticed what the oil pressure is after the motor has warmed up? I’m curious what it is at warm idle and driving steady 60-70 mph on the highway. With all the engine failures we keep hearing about it would be interesting to have some real world data. No one seems to have an explanation for the failures yet. As I have read the stories many seem to be driving at highway speeds which would drop rpms and oil pressure. Could oil supply be an issue? It could explain main bearing failure. I started believing it was a batch of bad bearings but there have been too many failures across multiple model years for it to be a bad batch. Wrong tolerance spec maybe. Just thinking outloud.

No abnormal temps... and no issue with heat soak from the cat shield after parking for a short time. I have my SG2 set to show both oil and trans temps and they have never really gone over 200F... maybe low 200s, but I don't recall. They tend to converge on the same temp over time, probably because the coolers are fed by the engine coolant, I believe. But I don't tow.

My firmware is up to date, the problem is all codes don't work for all vehicles. The specific Toyota/Lexus 3.5 code table does not have a boost code. The one I used is generic, I suppose, and that just won't work with Toyota. I will reach out to ScanGauge and ask if they have a workaround or perhaps will be providing a boost code for us in the future. I'd love to see that, myself.

Oh, the dashcam, many good choices out there but I have a Viofo dual. I had one on my Tacoma and let it go with the truck when I sold it. I liked it a lot so I got another.

@raylo Can you look at the TFT x-gauge you’re using? I tried every one listed on the site and none are reading for me. And which version sg are you running. Thank you

I'll have to check the device later but I am almost 100% sure it is this one. You do know that this won't work with older SG2 unless you send it back to the mfg to upgrade the firmware?

Think your firmware has to be 4.48 or higher? I'm 4.52 and the boost and tf2 don't work. Even with SG3 the tf2 does not work but sg3 does have options not available on sg2 / xgauge so it would make you think sg2 firmware is being phased out to sell sg3?

I am pretty sure that the Tundra PCM does not supply TF2 or boost no matter what device you use. I am keeping my SG2 for the tidy form factor and I don't need the other bells and whistles of SG3. I doubt they will phase out SG2. But no matter if they do, once you have yours set up it will probably last forever. Yes, I am also on 4.52, IIRC.

Good to hear. I sent mine in for update from 4.12 to 4.53 looking forward to using in the tundra since I couldn’t get torque app to read trans temp either.

Here is how I have mine set up. I used a small "o" for the oIL temp text name field since a big O would have looked too much like zero.
