So, I needed a half sheet of OSB( poor man’s plywood) for a simple project. In order to save $12, I figured I would scan some new sub divisions and ask the framers for scrap. As I was cruising the area looking up I felt a hard Bump Bump. Went a few yards and felt it again. Finally finding the hopeful site I thought maybe the big bumps were not normal. At this point, I would like to say that if mistakes make you smarter, Einstein had nothing on me. Well I looked down at the road, finally and found I had fun over TWO sewer manholds W/O the covers!! Did a quick inspection, got my free lumber- about $6 worth and went on my way-being careful to watch the road. Move ahead about a month later, towed our 24 ft TRAILOR to Bear Lake. While there I noticed a lean to the right-drivers side, but thought it was the terrain. We leave the TRAILOR at our spot, drive home and, noticed the Tundra was leaning as I was washing it. My lovely wife of 47 years comments that the truck is tilting —what does she know! As we Were heading back to Bear Lake in a few days, a little dude on my shoulder whispered to drop by the Dealership and have them take a look. Well, Chuck said ,”yeah, it’s leaning”. Anyway, I had a broken strut and shock, that with alignment, only cost me $674! BUT, I DID SAVE $12 ON THE LUMBER! ( what an idiot)

I used to worry about things like that when i was younger. The best thing to do is realize you can't change the past, and you can't foresee the future, so just live your life in the present. ..And you're not an idiot, we all make mistakes, its a trademark of being human. ;)

Look at it this way: you got it fixed before something REALLY bad happened like towing your trailer with it still broken, losing control and causing a lot more damage and possible injury than $674! You actually saved a ton of cash!

Yep, seems every time I try to save money it ends up costing me more. Usually way, WAY more. Now I just buy things the normal way, even if it seems expensive at the time. I can't afford to be cheap anymore.
