    Hi folks,
2UZ turned over and started up strong every time, except that it made a noise that sounded like Jerry brakes for several seconds, then stopped. Sometimes that happened during the first acceleration over 20 mph. No idea what that was. SAIS engine codes P1441 and P1444 were diagnosed—maybe the SAIS pump made that deep droning noise?

I addressed the codes yesterday and today…found a mouse nest under the intake (vac lines OK) and acorn shells lodged in the check valve and pump. Cleaned everything out and installed new OEM check valves w/ gaskets, OEM hoses, OEM switching valve, intake gaskets, and a Dorman SAIS pump. I got this pump on eBay for thirty bucks, and the mounting screws didn’t
align properly…I was able to rotate the boot clamping ring in such a way that 3 of 4 screws could thread in. I threaded about six turns of the fourth screw on the boot side to keep the screw set complete. After reconnecting everything (total $530) I started the engine and it cranked slowly and kinda mushy, started with a shudder, and idled for a couple seconds on the weak side before I shut it back off. This was because some fuel left the fuel lines during disassembly. After firing up the engine again, it smoothed out. I drove it for 2 hours and over sixty miles, and started the engine a few times afterwards. Limp mode went away immediately, and the engine light disappeared after a couple hours. Winner!!

Many thanks to the threads that diagnose the SAIS system for their great information!
    Jonathan

I'm happy for you. Most helpful (for future searchers) would have been to reply with this info to the threads that helped you instead of starting a new one. That way as much info stays in as few threads as possible.

Duly noted, Black Mamba. Will do for the future. If there’s a way to delete threads, I will do so and translate this to the SAIS thread. Many thanks :)
