Safelite will NOT change windshield on 2018+ if leveled or lifted

So I found out that Safelites policy is that they will NOT replace your windshield on the 2018 and newer with TSS if you have any type of leveling kit or lift installed. They say that they cannot calibrate the cameras if you are not at stock height.

I have 2 dealers close to me. One does not do replacements on site. They refer you to a different glass company that they use. I called the other dealer and he said that a service rep will call me to work the insurance claim. I'm guessing that they do replacements or send it out as well, but I won't know until they call me, most likely on Monday. I want OEM glass. Will the dealer use OEM glass, and will they have any issues doing the calibration with my Toytec lift?

From all I have heard and read, it is completely luck of the draw when going to Safelite. Some locations say it must be stock and some don't care if it's lifted or not. Seems the quality of work also varies greatly by location. I have a Tacoma instead of a tundra but it still has the TSS stuff and it is lifted 2 in front and back. The Safelite by me went above and beyond, probably the best service that I ever received from any company and yet several members on the forums that aren't too terribly far away from me had horrific experiences at their Safelite.

Yeah the reviews are terrible. There is one on the other side of Tampa that has had good things said about them. Pretty sad if I would have to drive 50 miles one way for customer service. I'll see what the dealer says on Monday.

Trust me when I say driving for a quality company is totally worth it. I drive 2 hours round trip every time I need tires mounted and balanced because that's the nearest discount tire and they are far better than anyone closer to me.

I'd keep trying different stores until you find one that will give good service. That's the sad truth here in Charlotte, NC as well.

Yeah I hear you there. The closest Discount tire to me is about 60 miles or so. I have gone to them twice. I just looked up that Safelite location...pretty bad reviews there too. Hopefully the dealer near me does it or there is a huge one in Tampa with a collision center and their site says that they do replacements.

On another note, according Safelites site, AllState does not cover for OEM glass. I'm assuming that it will be the same if I find a dealer that replaces it? The dealer doesn't charge labor for an insurance claim I hope.

FYI. I preemptively ordered the Mama Toyota windshield for my 2017 from a Toyota dealer that I know and do parts business with. It took over 7 months to come in. Ordered last October and came in in late April. Since I wasn't a dealer service dept order I might well have been looooooow low on the priority list.

Safelite quoted me 960.00 they say it comes with a lifetime warranty. I could save 330.00 going to a different store. No lifetime warranty

I just had my windshield replaced by Safelite with OEM Toyota glass. I had to pay $540 for it. I have Allstate. Windshield was approximately $1300, Allstate covers about $800 for the aftermarket glass, I had to pay the difference. Would have been free with aftermarket. Truck is stock.

Yeah it will cost me about the same. The OEM glass is much better than aftermarket. Safelites reviews are horrible as well. They aren't what they used to be years ago. Does your glass actually say Toyota on it? How long did it take to get it? I'm in the Tampa area. Hopefully the dealer calls me 1st thing in the morning since Safelite wouldn't even touch it.

It does. Same Vitro glass that was from the factory. It took about three weeks to come in, originally told over a month. Way quicker than I thought.

I did have a time with the order process. They screwed up the order twice. First glass was aftermarket when I arrived for my appointment. I wanted to see the glass before they touched the truck. Then they said it was ordered and never was until I followed up. Whole process took 6 or 7 weeks with the screw ups. Wasn't really the fault of the store. They treated me well.

insurance typically wont cover windshields done through us.. (we sublet the install) insurance will almost always make you pay the difference for oem over aftermarkets

if they insist aftermarket get the OE manufacturer.. accept nothing less.. we have constant issues with aftermarket glass causing camera issues

Safelite won't touch mine because of the lift. So one dealership outsources theirs and I'm waiting for a callback to see if he can get the OEM glass. The other dealership says someone will call me to assist with the claim. There is also a huge dealer in Tampa that says their collision center does insurance work for glass.

I refuse to ever give Safelite my business again, after an incredibly bad experience where they damaged my car and told me that it didn't matter because "it's a piece of sh#t anyway." It wasn't, by the way.

    Anyway...

I use Geico and I've had my windshield replaced twice on the Tundra. The auto glass shop I use will only use OEM on vehicles with windshield mounted sensors, and Geico gladly pays for it. No questions asked. Just pay my $100 deductible.

Had Safelite come out and do a "repair" on my windshield. But before I agreed I confirmed with my insurance company that I'm fully covered it it doesn't work. It lasted a few months then cracked across the whole windshield....

Yep...repairs are temporary...they usually do fail. My windshield just got replaced with a PGW about an hour ago. Vitro owns PGW.....Vitro makes the windshields for Toyota.

    Edit....not done by Safelite though.

I requested a quote from Safelite for my daughter's Rav4. They quoted it without the safety sensor alignment even though I told them it had the safety stuff. When my daughter called and said how much it was I had her pull up the quote. They would not honor. I was only replacing it because the previous owner had replaced it and it was not properly sealed. I talked to the installer and he said he could use the glass that was in it. Of course he did not. I will never use Safelite again.

I have a 2021 Tundra and my vehicle was unable to be recalibrated after the windshield was replaced last week. I live in Tampa as well. Where did you go to have the windshield calibrated here in Tampa with a lifted Tundra?

Did they disconnect the harness from it or just remove it from the windshield and let it hang?

I have stopped going to those chain windshield repair places for repair or replacements. They rip you off. I get better service from auto body places and at a better price. If the dealership doesn't do it, ask them who they use for outsourcing and they'll usually tell you. That's how I discovered using a body shop. The one I use has a separate set of guys that just do glass.
