Hey everyone, so i realized that the sequential mode doesn't shift gears instantly when i shift up, but instantly downshifts when i pull the lever down as it should. Is there a reason why the mode works in this way where it doesnt shift instantly while accelerating. Is there anyone who could tell me why this is, is it normal, and is there any mod or way that i can get it to up and downshift on demand.

Because all it does is limit the highest gear to whatever you select. That means that it will upshift normally to the gear you select, but not go beyond it. If you tell it to drop a gear you have set a new maximum gear and it will downshift immediately to meet that. It is working how it is designed. It's not a manual shift mode, but rather a way to lock it out of overdrive gears if it is gear hunting or if you know you won't be using them much.

It's really just a suggested gear cap like any normal automatic where you downshift it for engine braking. The truck will upshift when it wants, you're just telling it reduce the highest gear for engine braking. It's not really meant to be a performance mode.

With that said, VFT tuning can turn the shifter into a semi-manual where you tell it to upshift and it will on command, they call it gearlock and direct shift.

    It's normal.
I drive in S mode exclusively, and after awhile you'll know, depending on rpm's when it will up shift. Or just back off the gas a little and it'll shift.

Someone does make a gear lock tune. You should be able to search for it here. Good luck.

    Edit +1 to Sniv's recommend

Yeah exactly, it shifts perfect from 1st to second at like 4k rpms, but then it just shifts whenever it wants, yeah def gonna do some more research!

The shift point will vary depending on how hard you are pushing it as well. If you are driving like granny it'll shift sooner, but if you have your foot down it'll hold gears longer because you are asking for the power and torque. What you are describing is the normal function, though. You'll have to get a tune of some sort as others suggested if you want it to be fully under your control, but I'd be careful. If it's not going to the next gear when you ask it to, you are probably asking for it to shift too early for the amount of throttle you are mashing.

I haven't driven 5.7 with AB trans but the A760 of the 4.6 in both the 4x4 Tundra and my IS-350 definitely have some lag between selection and actual gear change. On the 350 it makes it super easy to bounce off the limiter... as in, shift at 6800 RPM to avoid bouncing off limiter at 7200...

It's a major bitch of the 2nd gen Lexus IS series and seems to have carried over to A760H in the truck.

Just saying, it may worse than the 5.7 guys know or same... IDK...

That's normal. i do have VF tuner on mine so I was able to add a direct shift feature along with gear lock feature. Direct Shift for upshift is almost instant. It doesn't matter if you're flooring it. It will upshift under load. It's up to you if you want to drive it hard that way. That maybe hard on the transmission.

The other feature is gear lock where the transmission will hold the gear until you upshift or downshift manually, provided the rpm is not below 1500 or will not be below 1500 when the upshift occurs. In that case, the ecu takes over like stock. This feature also allows you to use the all the available torque the highest gear can provide. When the rpm starts to drop, then you can manually downshift. Needs to be in S mode. Automatic features still works even in S mode. It will downshift on its own when you come to a stop or slowed down in speed and it will upshift automatically up to the highest gear selected.

Beat me to it, I have the same features from OVT in my tune and love it! Would have been nice if he could have figured out 5.29’s on 35’s. He told me because of my “weird combination” he was not able to do anything with my shift lag… I digress

The factory setup for S mode sucks I mean really sucks after you are used to the upgrades in the tune.

So you're having shift lag even in S mode?

I love this feature. Gives me good mpg. I still have a little over 1000lbs of weight on the bed for testing since last year. Some are broken concrete sidewalks that I found nearby the local school here. Best mpg 19 during summer with ac on-Shell 91. Not fast of speed 60-70, some stop and go, some uphill. Last month it was 17 on the same route. Less traffic though, no ac but with heater on and winter fuel-Shell 91.

Sorry I did not mean that. My S mode is awesome but the other part of my tune will hold a gear MUCH longer than it should with your foot off the gas pedal. He told me it was my weird combination. I don’t tow anything so nothing to report in that part of the tune.

The funny thing is idk if my truck has been tuned or not, i got it used from a private seller. But i feel like it much more powerful than a stock one, havent driven any others that i know are stock, i have a flowmaster cat back exhaust, and a cold air intake, but its a beast. Its def not supercharged, i think i clocked in a 6.1 0-60. What do u guys think lol?

You can try and get the stealership to do a software flash for the transmission.... Not sure if it was corrected, but in 07, I could skid the rear wheels from 1st to 2nd.... but it was locked out at 18mph and like 2500rpm...
