I just installed a S&B CAI in my truck yesterday. My question concerns the use of the intake plug. According to S&B the plug should be removed for optimum performance except in extreme heat waves.

1st, what temps are considered extreme?

2nd, how many users remove the plug?

I could never really find a solid answer on what they considered extreme temperatures. My guess would be 80-90+ degrees maybe?
I have left mine in a majority of the time, usually only taking it out in nice 60-70 degree weather when I'm just going out for a drive.

I think I read somewhere that if your average temps were above 74-76 degrees to use the plug. We hit 93 already this year so needless to say I use it

I watched a YouTube video where the guy had it on the Tundra and he said he was told 75 F and up to use the plug, but I’ve seen nothing on the S&B website to confirm this. I’m about to order a S&B CAI is the only reason I know. The thing that sucks is I live in coastal Mississippi so that means I will only be able to take the plug out for maybe 3 or 4 months a year.

In an average climate, is the air in the engine bay ever under 75 degrees?

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
The plug is on the side next to the fender. I don’t know about others but mine’s stuck in there pretty well.
If anything, during colder temps, I’ve taken the plexiglass top off.
Give the Underwood temps though, I do t know that it does anything to add ‘colder’ air.
IMO the only way to feed more readily available colder air to the box/filter would we with some type of ram air delivery...be it custom tubing or the RK Sport or Amerihood options.

I've seen a YouTube review leaving the plug in seems to give a better throttle response. I guess i'll have to try it both ways.
