Hello everyone! What’s a good rust preventative that would be good to use on the frame in the northern states? Currently my 2006 DC has a bit of surface rust and some bigger pieces under the bed. I’m about to move back up north and I’d like to clean it up and preserve it as long as I can.

I use fluid film. It has to be replied every year but, does a pretty good job at keeping the rust away.

Having used Fluid Film, I can say its good for a short time but tends to wash off easily. Its eco friendly and has a unusual fragrance.

It you are DIY and you want to do it right the first time with about $5-10 in grease and $7 in PB Blaster then do it my way. Probably will last a lifetime with about 5 hours hard work under the truck.

    1) Go under and spray every crevice on frame that your PB Blast straw tube will fit. This acts as a primer penetrating the welds and thirsty metal frame pores. Also lightly spray the frame.

    2) After the PB has soaked in, load up a sponge and hand rub your frame with a layer of Moly-B Grease bought in the tub. Use a flexible rod to shove the sponge and rag down your hard to reach box frame towards the front portion of the truck.

Granted I live in North Texas where we don't have too much problem with rust. However my Tundra is now 3 years old and I've used fluid film every year. Thankfully I have zero rust.

I used Fluid Film this past winter, seems to work well. I have used old motor in the past, it works but washed off easy

I second the recommendation for this product, except I just did my new 2019 Tundra with it, and used 6 cans. Admittedly, I applied at least two layers, especially in areas of the frame known to quickly rust on the Tundra. I've now applied this product to three Tundras and one Tacoma. No rust on any of these, and they still look new underneath. If you are obsessive compulsive like me, you will re-apply it every year, although you can get away with every two years.

What I especially like about it is that it is thin and will go anywhere you direct it. These cans come with the straw applicators so you can apply it in difficult to reach areas.
