I have been researching different style running boards for a little bit now and have narrowed down my search and would like some other opinions.

Truck loves to offroad on varying NE terrain (rocks, logs, mud, etc.)

I love the look of drop steps on running boards but the worry of snagging a rock/stump and doing some serious damage worries me.

What I have narrowed it down to -

GoRhino RB 10/20 with the capability of adding and removing the drop steps
TYGER Star armor - some people say that actually perform similar to "rock sliders" obviously they're not, but from the price point and the reviews it might stop some minor damage!

    Any other recommendations/input/advice?

If you’re off-roading you need to consider sliders. They cost more than steak but will give you needed protection!!

Demello and White Knuckle Offroad are tops!

^This... I have the RB20s on my truck and while I love the steps would be worry about gnarly terrain where one of the pointing points or the worse the steps get caught on.

I just installed the GoRhino Dominator D6 steps.
They too have "hoops" you can add (I didn't).
The RB's looked too Raptor style for me.
Of course, in my "de-chrome" phase, anything would have looked better than stock.
    Here's before and after...

FWIW, my only off-roading is my neighbors' lawn. :anonymous:

    The RB20's are pretty bad.

Way too wide, and try to imitate the Raptor, without the dimensions of the Raptor. Ends up looking strange IMO

What do you think about the Star armors? Some people say they serve similar to sliders just no where near as good.

I ran over a ladder with my original stock bars installed (seen in my avatar) and folded the driver's side into a 90 degree mess. I replaced them with the Star armors and couldn't be happier. They Stars mount up nice and tight giving about 2 to 3" more ground clearance. They are heavy and once mounted are way more solid that the stock bars. They don't budge at all when kicked or pounded on. The drawback is that they mount in the same locations as the stock bars do, so they are definitely NOT rock sliders. I do some off road trips in the mountains quite often and have not hit them once on the rocks. IMO if you're not doing actual "rock crawler" type off roading, these are the ones to have of those listed by the OP.
