I have this annoying rattling/rumbling/gurgling sound in the back right rear of the truck. It only happens when moving. It actually sounds like a bottle is in the door panel and its rattling but I have removed everything from the truck. Does anyone else have this? I am wondering if it happened when they dropped the gas tank to "fix" (its not fixed) the gas gauge. Ive never owned a turbo so Im wondering if it's that or an exhaust leak or something

Never heard of this one yet. I would notify your dealer and try to get a video for them. Post it up here too, some smart folks around here will have some feedback.

its such a low/quiet tone Im wondering if it would even pick up on the video. It's one of those, "If I turn my radio up" you can't hear it. it's annoying more than I think it's a real problem.

I thought this was a joke about a V8 rumble initially.

    Good luck

I have the exact same sound in the exact same spot. They didn't drop the tank though on my truck. It's a double cab 4x4 TRD OR SR5.

I seem to have the same thing. Going over larger bumps and pot holes on real shtty roads. Like a deep rattle or knocking from the back. Tried with the seats up, down... removed the jack kit and still had it. It's very annoying. Sounds like something hitting the back of the cab.

Interesting enough, I notice that the rattle wasn't as often or pronounced after I filled the tank to 50%. Got me thinking that I never really noticed it when the tank was full and it seemed to get worse as the tank emptied. Could be just a coincidence but am burning gas just so I can get down to empty to see if the rattle gets worse.

I figure I would try some trouble shooting before it goes in.

So today I got my Tundra back. The Good news is they had a Tundra for a rental exactly like mine so I was driving a Tundra at least. The bad news….they didn’t find it. They admitted it’s something. Next stop is I take it back Monday (the Tundra is rented out this weekend and I want to drive a full size truck while they have mine…might sound petty but I traded my taco ONLY for room) and they will remove the bed to see if it’s the bed making the noise. The fuel gauge isn’t working STILL and now when I manually turn off the auto start/stop and come to a stop the engine acts like it going to shut off and then “remembers” the start/stop is off only way I can explain it.

Filled up the tank the other day and went down the same pot filled street. The rattle was not as bad but still there.

Anyway - I think the gas tank thing was a long shot. Still sounds like something hitting the back window or back of the cab when there is a lot of motion. Maybe bed flexing?

Rattle was there with the back window down but I can't seem to really hear it if the sunroof is open. Probably another rabbit hole. Anyway, going to the dealer in a couple of weeks so I'll let them figure it out.

IIRC, I remember seeing pictures of a '22 that someone took extreme four-wheeling at high speed and the bed actually banged against the cab and put dents in the cab. It was almost like there wasn't enough room between the bed and the cab and they were rubbing against each other.

Maybe you are experiencing a minor version of what happen to this other guy.

My dealer mistakenly kept my spare out and I haven’t heard it in 2 days. Driving tomorrow down a road I know causes the noise. We shall see and will report back.

I have the same thing. But I hear it when I hit a bump and my window is up. It sounds almost like something tapping the glass. I can’t find it though

I really thought I had found mine in the hanging chain from the spare. I taped the chain to the frame but still hear it.

I'd crawl under and see if any heat shields are loose. They've been the culprit for many rattles through the years.

I had the same thing. My dealership was able to find and fix it. Behind the backseat they removed the plastic liner and tried to replicate it. They found that a bracket on the passenger side was a little loose. Tightened it and sound has never repeated since. The fix however moved the sensor that tells the truck if the window is open. So my app kept telling me window open. Went back and forget fixed that. So the bracket in question is somewhere near that sensor. Hope that helps
