hey guys I have 2010 4.6 liter with 103000 miles. Recently it’s started acting up. When I turn the key it will crank over good but it will almost start shutting back off almost like when you pull the battery and the crank sensor has to to reset. I have no lights on the dash battery is brand new and I checked connections. Has anyone had this issue before

I have a weird thing that the chip in my key does. Sometimes very random when I put my key in and turn it my truck won't start. If I wait a minute it will start up like normal or sometimes take the key out and put it back in it will start fine. I had a new key made and it's weird because it will go like a month or even a few months and never do it and then randomly does it? Weird... what if I was being chased by a murderer and my truck took an extra minute to start... I'm dead! :/

Ya that’s would definitely suck. My started today and it did started kinda weird 3 times. I’m gonna changes plugs and clean the mass airflow sensor while I’m at it hopefully cleaning the mass air flow sensor with help. I do need a spare key so maybe I’ll get one from the dealer and if that works then I’ll know what the problem was

I got a new key from a locksmith in town it was like 90 bucks for a brand new key and they cut it and programmed it. The key fob was like 120 or something. I had my spark plugs replaced with new coil pack things and they cleaned the MAF and it was genuine toyota parts for 300 I think it was.

Does it crank normally and suddenly stop cranking as if the engine froze? What size and CCA is the new battery? When does it happen? All the time, once in awhile, when engine is cold or hot ? When weather is cold/hot, dry/humid ?

It will crank fine and once the motor begins to start it takes little effort for it to get up to idle. Almost if you don’t turn and hold the key long enough for the truck to start. But it seems to do it when the engine is warm or cold and it’s been in the 80s the passed few days in Upstate Ny. I can’t remember what size the battery was when I got it. But I got the stranger of the few options cuz it gets pretty cold during the winter. It only seems to do it once in a while. It did it 3 times yesterday but didn’t do it all today

When you turn your key to the 'on' position do you hear the fuel pump pressurizing the system? Are you starting by holding the key at 'start' letting go when you hear the engine start or are you using the 'bump auto start' feature?

Good point. If it started happening when you put in the new battery seems like it would most likely be the battery that is causing you problem. You can get the battery tested for free at AutoZone. Or go in and get it exchanged for a new one and try that. I had a battery that tested good but it was bad. Also maybe need a new battery terminal. Sometimes when the terminal is not tightened down enough it can cause problems.

I haven’t been listening for the pump like I probably should be. I’ve been turning it over till it’s starts I don’t know of any bump start.

The bump start is you turn the key to start and let go, it'll crank until it fires.

Sounds like it's not getting fuel or spark at start up...check ranked highest to lowest posssibility : bad tank of gas...fuel pump relay....fuel pump...spark plugs...dirty maf.....ignition coils.
Fill up your tank with fresh fuel, verify fuel pump is running for 2 secs when key is in the 'on' position...
Use the "one touch auto start " feature (bump and let go) to rule out 'user error'

Lol. Mine does that too. All I have to do pull out the key and flip it over.

    I agree, it's very random.

    2003+ 4.7 and 2007+ 5.7 Tundra have it, is yours a V6?
If you have a 5.7 and it is not working, I would look for aftermarket alarms or hack jobs done to your wire harness
