Anyone else have an issue where their third generation tundra starts to idle a little rough and vibrate when stopped? It doesn’t do it all the time but often enough where I’ve taken it to the dealership twice and they have not been able to do anything. It’s really starting to drive me nuts, I’m not sure if it’s a loose motor mount or something like that but it’s been checked out by a master technician and they cannot find anything.

Yep, noticed since new all the way past 13k miles. Recently turned off the fake engine noise and no longer notice it. Maybe something to do with having the music and my preference of bass mixed with Toyotas engineered crap coming through the same speakers? Not sure

You've gotta get in there and play around with the idle speed, adjust the fuel mix screw, and maybe even check the vacuum lines on the OEM 4-barrel carburetor in the 3rd Gen Tundras.

I thought they used one 4 barrel for each turbo? Could it be a sticky float?

I too would like to hear the detailed response...

Remember this engine has 2 fuel injection systems. In addition the fuel injectors are driving individually per cylinder mechanically, Atleast the direct injection fuel injectors. So they my be contributing to the additional noises or vibrations.

my gen 3. Coyote Mustang does the same thang what has been aformentioned.

The intermittent rough idle might be some other load coming on like the A/C pump or air pump (for emissions if they still use those).

It might be dragging the idle down when it kicks in. I had that in my Honda. I could hear the pump clicking on so I knew what it was.

This issue is 100% from a sticky float ball in the carb. New ethanol fuel really gums up these modern carburetors.

I will switch to Chevron High Test 94 Octane and maybe some octane boost :)

This might be going the way of the "blinker fluid" threads.

This. I would turn off would all of the HVAC off and see if you can start isolating systems that might be dragging down the idle. Mine does this occasionally in stop & go traffic, but I'm not worried by it. Most vehicles I've ever had did this.

Any update on this? I vaguely remember a while back someone wrote it was the turbo wastegate not fully closing at idle and there was supposed to be a new ECU program coming.

Mine will cycle from super smooth to rough to smooth to rough over and over a few seconds apart.

Ive been talking to Toyota corporate for a few months now and I've demanded a replacement vehicle. Dealing with them has been a disappointment to say the least. This truck is definitely a lemon. So many issues it's not even funny. Brake squeak like crazy, bad vibration at idle, plastic around the seat adjustment controls has completely snapped off. Loud clunk when starting the truck. All the common issues with the new tundras mine has. Looks like maybe a class action suit is the only way Toyota is going make things right. Either that or they need a serious recall.

Yep... this thread has officially jumped the shark. OP, you're not going to get a "replacement vehicle", full stop.

Your options are: trade it, try to lemon law it, or live with it. I don't know if you live in CA (from your username) or not but here in CA the vehicle can be considered a lemon if it is disabled and there have been documented repair attempts exceeding a set time period where you don't have usage of your vehicle. The stuff you describe are chump change nuisances.

Get the seat fixed, do what @KroppDuster recommended to isolate the shudder, and wash yer truck to get the brake dust off the wheels and be happy.

(I love the "I DEMAND A NEW TRUCK NOTHING LESS ANDI WANT IT RIGHT NOW" threads...)

I never said I expected a replacement vehicle, I said I demanded it. I know that isn't going to happen. It's called negotiating.

And no I'm not going going on a fishing expedition to find a shudder on a brand new $60k vehicle. I expect a brand new Toyota to run fairly smooth. If Toyota can't twist the dealers arm and have them find the problem I'll dump the vehicle. Not going to be a mechanic on a brand new car. These aren't chump change nuisances either. It's a brand new vehicle with a bad shudder at idle.

Washing the truck doesn't keep the brakes from squeaking...

What are you a Toyota dealer or something?? You seem pretty defensive and upset, maybe you're just a serious Toyota fanboy.

I feel your pains, and the expectations. A new expensive truck shouldn't have such issues....

However, many of our new tricks do have these issues, and while we're not exactly thrilled, we try to figure them out and get them fixed. Many of us have the issues that you mentioned, and there's not much you can do except work together with the dealer to try to fix it.

To sum it all up, we have a brand new first/second year of a new design, so we're the Guinea pigs. (buy older model years next time if you don't like this)

Nope, just a guy that has been on the Tacoma forum since 2014 and now here. I get amused at these "Veruca Salt" threads where the disgruntled owner starts DEMANDING a new truck.

    Spoiler alert: it never happens.

Carry on, soldier. I'm back to lurking to see how this will work out for you... but I have seen this movie many times before and know the ending.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but those issues aren't terrible. These trucks idle weird but that's a byproduct of a 2 injector types and things like AC turning on and off, that doesnt mean anything is wrong with it. There is a TSB to correct the clunk at startup. Fix your seat under warranty.

Not sure on the brakes though... maybe you do need a whole new truck because of a squeak.

@this^^^^^. I took mine to an excellent dealer service department and they told me the same thing regarding the rough idle was a result of the a/c cycling on and off. I also had the clunk and they fixed that with a TSB.

So did anyone actually find out if this is normal or is there a fix? Mine has been doing this since new as well. Annoying but would be less annoying if I new it's supposed to do it and not just toyota cutting corners on something.
