Rotors and Pads needed

    The last set of brakes and pads I had on my 2013 Sequoia had no stopping power. No one in the house would drive my Sequoia but me because they felt unsafe. You had to push the pedal to the floor to stop it. The rotors and pads only lasted 20,000 miles in the front, the backs are fine. If the rear rotors and pads are fine and the fronts are 95% worn and the truck is hard to stop are there other issues I should be looking at?

    I need to replace the front runners and pads I guess (per the shop), I told them no for now because I wanna do some research and get better pads and rotors.

    Any suggestions?

    Yes... Replace calipers as well.... And if it has rubber hoses from caliper to main line, replace as well....

    I replaced the calipers last time and the shop says they are fine on all four.

    Any brands of rotors / pads I should focus on?

    The OE Toyota rotors are usually ok.

    Try one of the Bosch QuietCast pads from Rockauto. They have ceramic, semi-metallic, and severe duty. Another is one of the better Dynamic Friction pads. The fellow that founded Centric started DFC, and their pads seem to be pretty good. They make truck/HD pad that has good bite and stopping power.

    Centric once made good pads, but they have been going downhill since being acquired by Raybestos.

    Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension, HD RAS, 285/75-18 Nokian Outpost AT, LoPro bed cover, TRD rear sway bar, DD 10 inch exhaust, and various other goodies
    Centric or another good brand of cryo treated rotors (Cryo rotors last better on our heavy trucks) and akebono pads are very good quality, last and perform well and dont break the bank.

    Thank you for the info and links > looking at those now. The shop quoted me $412 for the Rotor / Kit SG-X - OE Ceramic +$220 Labor for the fronts. As I mentioned, the last set did not last 20K, no towing, no aggressive driving.

    Lets talk about the bigger problem "You had to push the pedal to the floor to stop it." That is your root issue.

    Had our 08 since 2011... 195K miles now, Never have we ever had to push the peddle to the floor to stop it. There is another issue at work here that needs to be addressed. It sounds like there is air or moisture in the system or you have a brake master cylinder issue. If air is in the antilock brake module it must be bled using a techstream device, to my knowledge. Full brake fluid flush is needed and full inspection of the brake system. And Like others stated upgraded stainless brake lines at each wheel will help a bit.

    If the peddle to the floor issue is not addressed and you put fresh rotors and pads on it you likely will just be pushing the peddle to the floor still.

    The brake Peddle should never go to the floor in normal daily driving.... never.

    If you have no lift or bigger tires, IMHO you can not go wrong with OEM Toyota Rotors. They are very well made. Centric makes very good rotors as well.

    With that said I use Powerstop Z36 Truck & Tow rotors and pads, front and rear, since I am on 35" tires and tow a boat regularly. 5 years now with them. My pads last 50-70K miles front and even long rear. My OEM pads lasted that long as well.

    I have done all my own brake work for over 30 years. Owned nothing but Toyota since 2004. You have a bigger issue that needs to be addressed for your safety please get another shop to look at the problem. Your calipers could be fine, but something else in the system has a problem.

    My brake pedal on my 2010 hasn't dropped in 88,000 miles. Mechanic says I should see 100,000 miles from my OEM brakes. If Toyota hasn't 'beancounted' away the quality, I'll by them next time too!

    I ended up going with the same, Powerstop Z36 Truck & Tow rotors and pads
    I don't know what my mechanic used for the fronts but I didn't get 20,000 miles out of the pads. The pads on the front were 95% gone. Since adding the Powerstop Z36 Truck & Tow rotors and pads on the front the truck feels much better, what I expect.
    I still have a lot of pad left on the rears so did not did not swap them out yet. However, I did purchase the rotors and pads for the rear as well. So I'll swap them out when I need to.
    I've done brakes on boat trailers but not on cars. I have to say it was pretty smooth I'm pretty easy. What do I do with the old rotors? They look fine, but I'm not a mechanic.
