My Tundra has rust spots on the roof and I took it to the dealership this morning, was told to take it to and autoshop that Toyota works with for repairs estimate. Now I am just waiting. I hope this is covered under warranty for corrosion. Anyone had this same issue? I live in Texas, work from home, don't drive much. I would expect my truck to feel and look new.

It is not a hole, yet. The rust is around half a centimeter. Looks like it's bubbling from under the paint.

That shouldn't be happening on a new truck or in such short of time. A simple stone chip shouldn't cause bubbling like that.

It's small, but there is already 4 spots on the roof that I am aware of.from a distance you can not make it out.

This is a known problem with Toyota white paint. Had the same thing with my 2014 4Runner. Search the forum for background. Stay away from Super white if possible, there is microscopic iron trapped in the paint. Not sure about the different "pearl" whites.

My 2015 Tundra was super white. It didn't have a spec of rust on it when I traded it in with 140K miles. Of course, I live in Colorado, which has a relatively dry climate.

The 3rd Gen isn't offered in Super White, only Ice Cap and Wind Chill Pearl. I'm digging my Wind Chill Pearl 1794. It takes on a slightly different color depending on exterior lighting. I bet it's a bitch to color match, though. Hopefully, I'll never need to.

Sheet metal pitting corrosion under paint on the first photo, clearly a manufacturing defect.

I was just asking to see of the previous owner hauled nuts and bolts on the roof.
Looks like lousy paint prep. A hassle to have fixed but they should take care of it.

What is all that recessed dimpling in the metal around the hole? Almost looks worthy of a metal patch job. Please keep us informed

    What’s a centimeter?

I jest, I jest. Anyway, that looks suspiciously like there was corrosion there to begin with that was painted over…

I don't think that's dimpling. That looks like bubbling from the rust to me.

I’ve got little “rust” spots all over my truck (040). It’s a ‘22 with 18000 on the odo. I am just planning to sell it or trade it before it’s an issue. I have never had this occur on any other vehicle I’ve owned. Oh well, just another issue in a long list……

Some previous conversations and research lead to the discovery of iron particles from rail dust trapped in/under the paint during transport, paint not fully cured yet.

That's not just "spots" that's already IN the metal and under the paint. What's the rule? You multiply the obvious evidence by 3 and that's roughly the size of the affected area?

^^^ This is exactly true. When I restored my 1981 Jeep CJ, I was constantly shocked by how much worse the rust actually was under the paint. Here's just one example of a rust spot at the bottom of the A-pillar. The second pic is what I found lurking underneath. What I thought was going to be a simple sheet metal patch turned into a much larger project to reconstruct the rusted A-pillar.

you guys are going to have huge bondo spots on your roofs. Back in the day, I was looking to be a vehicle appraiser. One of the things they look for is prior repair. If the magnet doesn't stick or the paint is off, number go down.

OP, there's two options, either they cut huge holes in your roof and weld/bondo the piss out of it, or roof skins may be available and they'll replace the whole roof skin. This constitutes cutting the welds and resealing the whole thing. If there's a roof support or brace under those spots, the rust may be in that too. If so, your cab is fucked.
