Great design if you're making and selling parts...

IIRC someone here made some DIY screens quite awhile ago. I didn't save the thread, however.

Comprehensive claim, but amount too small to waste your deductible on IMHO

Your rates don't go up with a comprehensive claim (at least mine didn't when I hit a deer). If it'll cost 1k to fix and his deductible is $500 why wouldn't you submit a claim?

Depends on if his deductible is $1000 or $500

The real question is how much does a new intercooler cost, parts and labor? I guess $2000. Let the guessing game begin.

Edit that: OP said $1000 in first post. That seems like a decent deal these days.

$0 comprehensive deductible is really only a few dollars a month…if you dont have this you should.

I know, but some insurance have a tendency to not be totally honest about not raising rates with a comprehensive claim. Not at first, but sometimes at renewal the rate could go up.
    ...or $100

rock guards for all intercoolers and radiator should be standard or at least come with the TRD package...I'd buy a set if I could find them...somebody's got to make them really should be on all cars

Everytime I bought a vehicle with large grill holes, I have always immediately inserted 1/4" grid hardware cloth directly behind the grill. This prevents impact and insects from ruining or clogging the A/C condenser and much more. Really nice to have cold A/C on 20 year old vehicles. Some common sense and a few dollars goes a long way folks. Did I mention it might save you a grand, possibly more than once?

Call it what you want. Across the board rate increases are inevitable. Insurance companies are losing their butts so you will get raised whether you submit a claim or not.

Had this happen to me today. Went and had Toyota look at it and they said it would be $1700 to fix it and not covered in warranty. Truck is only 9 months old so pissed they won't work with me since it's a design flaw

I wonder if an aluminum mesh with about 50% coverage would do much to the air flow needs. The mesh I have has 1/2” holes. This could even provide some strength to the flimsy grille.

I guess the design with the big holes and thin plastic makes the truck lighter so better gas mileage!

Secured it to the back of the grille with zip tie mounts so there are no exposed zip ties. If they break or come loose just redo.

if this has happened to you, call Toyota have them mark it down and maybe they will do a recall and reimburse you. I called yesterday about this and today they said they would cover everything except for the taxes. And they would look further into other people having this issue
