I've been wanting to build some sliders for a while. I was on a trail ride last yr and got a small dent on my driver's door. after that I told myself that I needed to build some sliders asap.i just finished them today and could not be happier .

I got a 140 amp hobart welder at tractor supply to restore my 1968 vw bus. great welder for a homeowner. just practice a bunch and you can't get the hang of it . it's not hard just takes practice.

Nice work! Did you weld them to the frame?

Nice! You should add gussets to strengthen it. The moment the sliders sit on something they will bend or crack at the weld.

no, I bolted then with 1/2" grade I bolts to the side of the frame and have 1/4" plates welded to the bottom of the sliders also bolted with 1/2" grade 8 bolted to the bottom of the frame.

I thought about adding gussets. some manufacturers add them some don't. I ran my bottom plate onto the tube and welded it to the tube and the side mounting plate . alot of the builders stop the bottom plate at the side plate. I ran it by to add strength. all the tubes are welded on all 4 sides. I think they will be fine. I am just doing green easy rides ,nothing crazy. thanks for the input.

the 2x2 steel was $500 . I had the 1/4 " plate already. the epoxy primer was about $100 and the rustoleum was $20. so total is $620. about half most sliders, also saved because I didn't have to pay a freight shipping charge.

(though c4 fab. has free shipping on all their products. I have their front bumper and it's awsome)

Looks great. Did you have to drill the frame? Did you do the tack welds for the inside rails while mounts were on the truck, or were your measurements good enough to tack up off the truck?
