So I just got a new Tundra and I ordered the Ring car dash cam via Bestbuy a few days ago. Surprised it is coming in tomorrow as Amazon/Ring seem to be out of stock until July. Anyway, it uses your OBD2 port for power, even when the vehicle is off (it will auto power off if it senses low battery). It mounts on the dash. My question is, should this go more towards the driver side of what I believe is the light sensor in the middle of the dash, or towards the passenger side? I would place it in the center for better coverage/field of view.

I’d be more concerned that it’s tall enough to see over the dash into the cab…assuming you want to use the dual camera functionality.

As for right or left of the sensor…as long as you have enough spare cord, I don’t think it matters to be honest.

If you're driving a 2023 Tundra, your privacy is already gone. The only thing a ring cam is going to provide that your truck doesn't is a video. Your truck is a microphone that captures everything you're saying, everywhere you drive, how fast, how slow, how hard you brake, how aggressive you turn, etc... There is no escaping it anymore unless you unplug completely, no phone, and no modern vehicle. The details of our lives are a commodity now for sale to any company wanting to pay for it. I found out the other day when my monitoring service found my DMV data on the dark web that most state DMV's sell your info and make money off of you. Mortgage companies, loan providers, everyone sells it. I still wouldn't put a ring in my truck though, lol.

Hard no for me. Anything with an interior camera is a definite pass. If they ever come out with a different style, sure.

if ring is following the same protocol as the door cams, then it will upload the video to the cloud then you can view the video. which means they have access to the video and by proxy they let police depts also view the videos.

but i havent followed them for a while so i dont know if they changed the way they use to do business. i dropped them along time ago due to this issue. moved to eufy then dropped them before they had issues, and using wyze right now, but will be dropping them and moving to a straight rtsp cam to feed directly to my blue iris.

right now i just use a dumb viofo 129 for a dashcam, no wifi/lte

You living under a rock? Everything mentioned is publicly available, need only open your eyes. There are a ton of class action lawsuits against ring and the parent company Amazon for this stuff. There is even one concerning the fact ring is capturing and storing facial biometrics for anyone captured on the cam which includes anyone's face it picks up from people passing by. They create face templates which are as unique as a finger print. It was recently moved to a federal court because of the implications. While some people don't care what that information could be used for, they should care they're paying for a device that's providing information that's sold. People are literally paying these companies for the right to give data away the company can continue to make money on. There's a reason smart tvs are exponentially cheaper now, they make more money off of selling user data to various organizations than they do off the actual tv. Vizio's Chief Technology admitted to this in an interview "It's not just about data collection. It's about post-purchase monetization of the TV." Amazon (ring) is no different.

Looks like they are popular. Amazon says expected to ship May - July. Best Buy still has them, though.
