    Hi Peeps,

I got this cool gizmo on Etsy to replace the ashtray with a spot for my phone to charge wirelessly. I have done some wiring on my campervan but wondering how you guys think is best to tap into power. Should I try jumping off the cigarette lighter or tap into the fuse box?

Thanks for any input you have for this type of install.

Cigarette lighter or USB from your head unit if you're aftermarket. You could even splice into one of the cigarette lighter feeds behind the dash to keep it cleaner. Draw isn't that high and the cigarette lighters are already fused.

I was going to use a tap but not sure I am smart enought to know how the ground is done. If I tap into existing wire to cigarette plug, is it already grounded? looking for the right tap to buy on Amazon.

Cigarette lighters, all three of them, have positive and ground on the back of them.

if you ever are about to pay $70 for something 3d printed, maybe post up and see if someone can do it for you. That’s some crazy margins, would be glad to help you save some dough if possible.

I don’t understand the draw of MagSafe but flat. There are so many ways to mount a phone in a car with MagSafe that don’t use any storage spots or let you see the phone screen. But to each their own.

yeah, I didn't really know to ask that type of thing here when something I found was already available. I didn't pay attention to the Magsafe part, just liked the idea of wireless charger in the truck.

    I just ordered this...

And a RAM mount that holds a magsafe charger for less than that phone holder.
