Random question and hopefully I am posting this in the correct section. But does anyone have a picture of their front oem suspension? I'm about to remove the leveling kit that came with my truck and just want to make sure there is nothing I'm missing when I put it back together.

After taking my truck in for an oil change at the dealership I noticed a thud sound when shifting from reverse to drive and vice versa the following day. Wanting to see if removing the kit changes anything.

Where does the “thud” seem to becoming from?

Was the leveling kit installed when you had the oil change? Removing it is a lot of work just to diagnose a thud.

The thud is definitely coming from the front. It is when the truck squats when the gear is changed.

No sir, the leveling kit was on it when I originally purchased it a little over a year ago.

Yeah, looks to be like a two inch block on top of the coil over.

And it is only when shifting from d -> r and vice versa? What about if you roll slowly and hit the brakes do you still hear it ? Try that in drive and reverse.

Just the initial shift, have no other issues during driving. Seems to be when I’m pulling in and out of parking spaces but does not do it all the time. will give that a try to see if anything happens.

Don’t really drive that it much. Looking to sell the vehicle but want it fixed before then.

Bought it leveled with 19.5~k miles on it from the original Toyota dealership that has all the maintenance records on it from the original owner. After having the truck about 15 months I hit 5k miles and took it to a closer Toyota dealership for an oil change. I’m at 24.5~k miles right now.

is it a thud or a clap noise. when i go from forward then brake then reverse then brake, it makes a clap noise at each braking input. dealer said it is the brake shoes shifting

I am leaning on the highly unlikely side that it is your leveling kit

I’ll try and see if I can get it on a video and upload it. May have to be on a day off but I’ll see if I can pick it up when I leave work today.

Did the bolts get tightened on the skid plate? It's not the leveling kit causing the issue....not to mention the work involved to remove it and the cost of a new alignment.

I’m not 100 percent sure on that will have to take a look here when I get off.

Well I need an alignment anyways according to the dealership. Said I should have one at 20k?? miles I believe. Told them I wanted to wait til I installed my new wheels and tires. But I just removed those so I could sell the truck with the factory wheels. Have basically a brand new set of icon wheels and ridge grapplers I need to sell now as well now. Hahah

Just a shot in the dark here, but it could be a motor mount.

So with just a quick look I noticed the front plastic was not connected to the skid plate. Didn’t notice the skid plate moving at all while tugging at it by rear side close to the axle. But did not get too much under the truck to look and see if it was bolted up everywhere. Will try to get another video of the transmission shifting when I can. First video there was too much background noise so you couldn’t hear much of anything.
