Has anyone removed the factory safe? I was looking at it today and can't see how it would come out. It is larger than the aftermarket ones I see for sale. Took the bolts out but there is not enough room to lift it out. Lid is in the way.

It can be removed with the lid on or just remove the lid.

With lid on as you lift it half way up tilt it and you can slip it right out.

Do you have the original console bolts to mount the console back down? The safe hardware is too long.

It is indeed a tight fit. You either need to remove the console lid, or get a 3rd hand to ease the console lid up and down, as you lift the safe up and out.

Also, I'm looking for one of the top trays that come with the safe. Care to sell me yours?

I don't have a tray. Sorry. That was why I was trying to remove the safe. I got a full size tray I want to use. I was thinking of cutting the safe down to where I could use both. Just couldn't see how to get the damn thing out without probably removing the door which I really didn't want to have to do. I'll try again when I have more hands available. Wife will love that. lol

Yeah it’s real easy if you have a extra set of hands. Pull it up as far as possible then close the lid and shimmy it out. I just did this last week so 100% know that it’s possible

I hear you. I have been wanting a console safe for my EDC, and also for my wallet when I run/hike/cycle from a trailhead. Trailheads are frequent targets for thieves breaking into cars. Bastards! On the other hand, I've been using the full tray organizer before I got the safe, and love its function. So, looking for a 1/2 tray that will fit alongside the 1/2 Lock'er Down. I have a feeling i will be cobbling something together, as mine does not have the full metal frame that most of the other aftermarket safes have. I noticed that the new Toyota installed safes have no top tray as well. I wonder if they have a new vendor making the current safes?

Yeah, I thought about getting the full tray and cutting it down but after I got it I like it the way it is and thought maybe I can shorten the safe. Shouldn't be too hard once I get it out. Just a little cutting and welding. Should still be deep enough for 9mm and anything else. I post a question on the website of the manufacturer of the half safe about the tray but I don't think I ever got a reply.

Got it out. Turned out to be easier than I thought. Just had to come at it from the passenger side of the truck. New full sized tray organizer in place. Will have to see about cutting down the safe.

Its super easy to remove the lid btw. I installed the factory safe and tried to get it in with the lid on and realized I'd end up scratching the underside of the lid and bending it back too fair. So I followed the directions that it came with on removing the lid and it was really easy to do and worth it to do it right. The lid removes simply by removing the rear plastic trim piece with the vents, its only held in by snaps. Then there are bolts holding the lid on.

Should be inside bottom. I think there was a felt cover or something where you couldn't see them. After you remove those tilt towards driver side to remove.
