I'd take Redding ANYDAY over New Orleans...

If you're a gun enthusiast however, CA has some insane laws.

Salt Lake is pretty fantastic, just sayin'! 10th best in the US for education, 12th best in housing affordability, 2nd in Skiing, Voted Nat Geo's best state parks... The list goes on. But I won't bore you with details. :p Just ask @1stToy and @Backslider!

EDIT: Also, in the top 5 for employment opportunities.

LOL it all started when the French denied access to New Orleans warehouses to Americans and access to the Mississippi River. Negotiations were brought up, long story short, Napoleon Bonaparte's advisor advised him Louisiana was worthless without one certain city (I forget which one), it would most likely be taken by British forces in Cananda, and France couldn't afford to send troops up and down the Mississippi River so they sold to the US
    Yeah, I'm French/Irish/Cherokee

To be honest, I LOVE Louisiana! I'm moving back in a couple years. If you don't mind the humidity and mosquitos and the fact that the whole land is a swampland, you'll love it too LOL

Try looking between N.O. And Baton Rouge. All around those areas have some nice places.

    St Francisville is beautiful!

I may be biased, but I say somewhere in the NOLA area. From what I read, California has too many restrictions on everything from vehicle mods to guns, but I have no experience other than what I read. On the other hand, NOLA is high crime in certain areas.

If you choose La, I would look on the Northshore in the Mandeville / Covington area(30-40 miles to the city) or to West going towards Baton Rouge, like LaPlace (20-25 miles from NOLA, 40-45 miles from Baton Rouge).

Oh, and the food in La can't be beat! Just sayin'

Saturday nights in Death Valley should be on everyone's bucket list

I have family in Redding and lived there for a few years. It sucks balls! Mt Shasta was cool but the summers are hot. I'm just not a rural living type of person.

I've never been to NOLA but I've seen the First 48 .

I grew up in Mandeville. Went to elementary school there (Our Lady of the Lake) and went to High School in Covington (St. Paul's). All of my dad's family still lives in Mandeville, mom's family in Metairie, and mom lives in @Law323 neck of the woods in Gonzales.

    I really like the Northshore.

26 an hour for 4 on 4 off? I ain't mad about that.

I moved from Plainville (Foxboro), MA. It just wasn't doing it for me.... Love all three states haha. Phoenix and Salt Lake definitely take the cake. Wyoming is cool if you live in Jackson, but outside of that it's pretty flat and boring. There's some cool things in Phoenix, but the seasons are what sold me on SLC (actually having 4 seasons with skiing and stuff)

My cousin's in SF right now, said it's beautiful but can't imagine living there with all the volts and priuses LOL
I've been to various places in TX, Alabama and TN. I gotta say you couldn't go wrong in the right places in either of those states. I love Kentucky and ARkansas. Anywhere there's a nice sized area of natural preserves and woods/swamps, plenty of good folk, some good microbreweries and food..... I'm happy LOL

Well both of our families from central California but I don't want to live there and redding has more of the mountains and redwood trees that we both love so mainly we would move to be a little closer to family other than that Mandeville is very nice I love the atmosphere and the food there plus her brother lives in New Orleans with a fishing/hunting camp so as if right now Mandeville is top of the list

That's my fear with WY. It's mostly flat and boring.. I'd probably get work in Gillette which is close enough to the Bighorn mountains to pacify me. Everything else about it is great though.
