reinstalling wate pump housing that needs FIPG

are there any replacements for the FIPG we are supposed to use when putting back the water pump housing? RTV

 

There are lots of opinions on that. The FSM for the '05-06 says to use PN 08826-00100 which is Seal Packing 1282B and is expensive AF. However I think most people including the dealers that use Toyota brand FIPGs use PN 00295-00103 which is the 103 FIPG. I think the 103 is amazing stuff and I've used it for several applications. Others may disagree but my opinion is it will work fine on the water inlet housing. That being said I did purchase a tube of 1282B mainly because I have three vehicles with the 4.7 to maintain. this FIPG that clearly says for use on water pumps but I seem to remember the formulation being more equivalent to 103 than 1282B.

I have a tendency to stick with Toyota brand stuff. Others may have preferences of other brand FIPGs.

So a question to add to this: does it not come with a gasket? And if not why can't you use some off the shelf permatex gasket maker?

 

I use 103 with no issues. I do make it tacky first before torquing it tight.

It doesn’t anymore, at least it didn’t with the aisin kit I got. I ended buying aisin FIPG off Amazon. However, I almost went with this permatex:

When it's metal on metal Always use the stuff from the dealer. It dont matter which one they are all good. I'm talking the top 3. Toyota, Nissan, and I myself use Honda Bond, supposedly the best.
