Thanks to the motive gears thread, I regeared finally to 5.29s with a speedmaster LSD.

I do not believe they are on this forum but big shoutout to outlaw off-road in Georgia as they got it done fast and the customer service was amazing.

I’ll update more as I go with the heat cycles and break in if I remember.

Update: gears are amazing never driven a regeared truck however. Dobinson front bumper 35s and skids bogged it down bad regear its back to stock. I’ve got 100 miles so far being very gentle. I haven’t off-road yet to test the locker yet.

Everyone said they would be “whiny” slight noise but I can’t hear it really. Caveat I have hearing loss.

ill update once I do a fluid exchange around 300 miles.

    UPDATE

drained fluid today at 541 miles life got in the way of doing it sooner. Oil was pure grey. Minimal chunks I’ll do another drain in 500 miles to be safe.

Well don't thank me yet. Let's see how it goes. I'll install once it shows up and what @Lemuel1 thoughts are.

Not sure what y'all paid for the speed master but here's the current price on their site. Seems like a good deal?

They had 145 in stock. With the price cut we should get some real world results.
@Lemuel1 will be like, what happened to my thread...

Can you provide which outlaw offroad did the install? I'll contact them on Monday to see what needed to be done. Appreciate it.
Hows the break in period going?

Curious to hear if this ends up being a tolerances issue on the lsd like the Powertrax had a little bit ago or if it was the gear setup.

Years ago, regearing was a pretty common mod after lifting a truck and adding larger/heavier wheels. Today it's a rarity, which blows my mind.

I haven't yet seen this in my searching of traction adders, and I'm curious/skeptical. I ran a Detroit TruTrac in my T100 for a few years, I actually wore it out and have sworn off of helical gear LSD's since. I should have paid better attention to the fine print on Detroit's website about stock tire and power levels. They recommended against the TrueTrac for anything over stock tires, and I was running 33's with a supercharged 3.4 on mine. By the time I pulled it the unit was worn to the point I was basically an open diff again. The guy I gave it to tore it down and found the helical's had eaten a solid 1/4-1/2" into the end plates.

Does anyone have any long term experience with it yet? If they have some strength to them I would definitely consider them. On my Tundra I'm not sure I want to go full blown locker or do an LSD since it's not my main trail truck.

I hear you. I'm not meaning to be a downer on this post, I just want to know lol. I ran the TruTrac for quite a while. I didn't want (see: denial in webster) to go full locker, but I needed to. It was great in the beginning, I loved it on the street, but it just wasn't enough to hold up to my driving style or what I was putting it through. When my gear setup failed in that truck, I went with a Harrop Elocker and have been kicking myself since because I didn't go full locker from day 1. I really don't want to go back into the diff on the Tundra when I do regear.

My other truck has been redone now 4 times. First to install the TruTrac, second to go to 4.56's and keep the TruTrac, third to replace the gears and go to the Harrop, and now it's on 4.88's sitting in my driveway waiting for me to finish it.

That’s sweet @Lemuel1 I’ll be following! As for the helical gear LSDs, everyone has been having better luck with the powertrax helical gear than the auburn clutch style. I’ve had both and the powertrax is the better unit for sure. A lot of guys have given the powertrax tough supercharged beatings and they hold up well. The speedmaster hasn’t really been used much by comparison so hopefully it performs similarly to the powertrax, but too soon to say. That price is definitely enticing though.

Good to know. Again, I'm just very wary of helical LSD's, especially considering the massive increase in parts pricing compared to my older Toyota's. I could just about regear my older T100 for the parts prices on the new Tundra, hence my buy once cry once mentality of regearing it.
