Just had a rock hit my windshield. Put a nice ding and a crack. I assume the whole windshield will need to be replaced and I’m taking it in tomorrow.

What happens to the sensors? Do I need to take it to the dealer and have that fixed too?

Anyone have an experience with this?

The shop I took my truck to recalibrated the sensors when they replaced the windshield.

Local auto glass shop. Every similar shop I checked out around here offered the recalibration on-site.

I recently replaced the windshield on my Malibu rental...safelite offered recalibration....hefty price but they offered it. Not sure if they can do it on these trucks though

$175 recalibration for me. Safelite did offer it for the truck, but it had to be brought to their physical location. It wasn't something they offered (here) for their mobile work.

If you're an experienced glass guy you don't need to re-calibrate. At least on my 2024 TrailSport they haven't done it and works perfect. And make sure you use OEM and not cheap chinese shit.

I just had the windshield on my wife's 2022 4Runner replaced by a local auto glass shop. I watched and chatted with the tech the whole time. The camera re-recalibration involved a pretty slick device that utilizes lasers to place it in the proper position. Then the tech connected to the front camera using a special computer software (I forgot the name of the software).

Anyway, from start to finish the re-calibration took the tech about 8 minutes. He said Toyotas are usually a breeze to re-calibrate.

I got the windshield replaced. They didn't do anything to the sensors, and after 2 days I haven't had any issues with lane centering, radar cruise, etc.

No wind noise, either but hoping there's no leaks. Will probably water it down today to confirm. I just hate replacing major components on a vehicle. Can't imagine how those long block dudes feel :)

As stated already, use OEM glass. Regardless of what anyone says, OE glass is far superior relative to “aftermarket” glass. Please don’t use Safelite. If you have used them and were satisfied, I guarantee there are issues with the installation you haven’t noticed or will become a problem in the future. They will often fight you on using OEM glass anyhow. Besides, the OE Tundra glass has the cool Morse code Easter egg on it, or at least I assume it still does.

Just had my windshield replaced. Had to jump through a few hoops to get oem but my local shop did all the leg work. They installed and calibrated the windshield but after a week it rained and my auto wipers didn't turn on. I took it to Toyota and they said the sensor wasn't installed properly, I guess it's just taped on so they installed it and everything works now. They ordered the oem through toyota with my Vin so it should be the acoustic glass if im not mistaken.

I don't think it's the sensors that need to be recalibrated. It's the camera behind your rearview mirror that needs it, because it has to be removed to replace the windshield. It has to be "aimed" correctly for the Driving Assist System to work properly. That's how the tech explained it to me.

Perhaps your tech just winged it, and glued the camera back on (they use double sided tape) without the proper recalibration. It might work OK, but it's certainly not the correct way to do it.
