Hey ive got a 2014 tundra bought new. Have pulled some heavy loads with it (about 10k plus) about 3 years ago but only hauling loads about 5k now. Last year installed rear air bags due to sagging with loads. About 3 weeks ago started dealing with rear end noise. Put it on jack stands and from a coulpe of feet away while running it 40mph you can tell its noisey but with a pry bar and ear i cant pin point it. Was wondering if anyone has had problems with this gen rearend before and difficulty of the rebuild? Ujoints are tight and no noise at carrier bearing. Thanks Taylor

howling noise but does not change under acceleration like a normal pinion bearing. But does get louder with a load bebhind the truck. Have not got a chance to change the fluild but it is at the correct level.

    Too many, but not enough....
gears in the rear diff? sometimes when ppl get regear done they complain about howling noises. Pretty sure if it ever happens under acceleration, you have a problem.

Off chance maybe something with drive shaft or joints?

Axle bearings would be my guess. Not a terrible job. Might be a little slow getting parts with the current crisis though. Just be patient. BTW, if you backed boats into the water, that could have allowed water to get in the differential breather.

I was thinking axle bearings/wheel bearings as well. Do you think differential bearings/carrier bearings would change sound underload?

The axle bearings would be my guess because they take the most abuse. No bearing should have a significant change in sound loaded vs unloaded if it is in good condition and well lubricated. As I mentioned earlier, if water has entered the picture, then you might as well get ready to rebuild the whole works. Good luck!
