Noticed my back window was broken today. 2019 Limited DC. There was no rock or sticks, and no other damage and nothing missing from the inside. Last driven a week ago. I cannot figure out how it broke. You would have to climb into the bed to touch it, and then could not reach anything on the inside. Could a bird strike cause this? What else? Slamming a door? Temp or pressure changes? Anyone else seen this?

They don’t just break for nothing. Likely attempted theft. Or something hit it hard..

It never left the driveway, and had an SUV parked behind it all week.
It’s never that hot in Washington. It got near 70 this week, but did not rain while warm. No one is mad at me that I am aware of. It’s just weird.

If there’s glass inside your truck then it was broken from the outside . If it was a bird then you would see a dead bird either on your back seat or in your bed otherwise someone hit it with something and took off .

I’m betting someone broke it and walked off. My Tacoma’s driver side window was destroyed by some prick just for fun before.

I’ve seen rear windows randomly shatter on trucks before. Even from the doors being shut.
    Sometimes it just happens.
Could be a combination of many different factors.

Im 99.99% sure a thief would not break that window with the intent of stealing something.
If they’re gonna break a window. They’re gonna break one that’s going to let them get in and out quickly.

if the vents at the back of the cab are blocked this can happen. ive had to replace windows because people open the front windows on the highway and theyve got the vents blocked. but ive never seen it from a truck/car just sitting. not saying it isnt possible. but i dont believe it'd be likely. im more in the belief it was someone just being an asshole and breaking a window

My back window shattered from the pressure of closing a door. Sucks, but it happens.

Probably shot out with a pellet gun, might check with police and see if any others in the neighborhood were affected.

I had a situation with my wife’s car sitting in the driveway and had her rear window shattered. Turned out the neighbors lawn service kicked a rock from the mower deck and exploded her window (our across the street neighbor was out on his porch and literally watched it happen). They never did take ownership of it and the guy was real douche when confronted about it. But we couldn’t prove it, I didn’t want to put my across the street neighbor in a bad spot and we just paid it

The Stealer sez...... you cannot buy just the middle sliding glass. You must replace the whole rear window assembly for about $375. Then there is unknown installation charges. I’m thinking of just epoxy and a sheet of black tinted plexiglass and call it good.

That's dirt freakin' cheap. Had a 2013 F150 with the heated back glass...and the PART (at the time) was around $500. Installed it was $950.

If that is a power sliding window this should be the part number for the center window. Toyota OEM Part # 64807-0C010

I thought I had a piece of black tinted plexiglass, but failed to find it. I am going to buy a sheet, cut to fit the frame and glue it in with RTV adhesive.

Did you consider running it through insurance? My insurance deductible for broken glass is $50. I know this because I had a 2012 F-150 that had the notorious rear defrost/exploding window issue (look it up). F-150s has a nasty “feature” where the rear window defroster circuit would malfunction and cause the rear window to explode. One of the reasons I sold my Ford, they wouldn’t fix it under warranty. So I put in an insurance claim for broken glass.

I was hoping on reusing the plastic sliding lower frame, but you cannot remove the from it with ruining it. This lower frame, with glass sells for about $75 online. But the tinted plexiglass sheet I got matches the side windows perfectly. It looks good and will hold until I install the part.
