I have a 2014 Tundra Crew Max Limited (250k+ miles) with air control issues. We didn't notice the issue until the summer, and while it isn't a problem now, it will happen in several months.

Nearly 75% of the time, when we have the AC on (or selected automatically through climate control), very hot air comes out of the rear vents on the console. One thing is for sure: the dogs notice it. What we do is shut the vents so as not to overheat the dogs, and then the center console (inside and cup holders) gets extremely hot. I joke that we could probably cook a roast in the console during a long trip. If you have an ice-cold fountain drink in the front cup holder, it will be warm within 20 minutes.

What is strange is that it doesn't happen all the time, and I cannot identify what combinations of settings cause it to happen.

It is probably worth noting that I had the dealership replace a loud fan motor a couple of years ago.

Any thoughts before I take it back to the shop and spend a fortune?

Hard to figure your complete solution as it could range anywhere from a malfunctioning blend door to needing a freon recharge or a bad expansion valve. I'm no expert on this but figured I'd give you something to think about if you decide to tackle it yourself.

Or if you already took it to the dealership, you could post what the fix was for future reference.

    Alot of them
There isn't a blend door between the front and rear I don't beleive. I added rear AC to my Double Cab and it was just adding a duct that taps off of the front, a new rear console panel, and the vents.

I've had somewhat similar symptoms recently. Had it diagnosed as a bad expansion valve. It's being replace tomorrow. When it first started it seemed to be intermittently warm.
