Hi I was wondering if anyone knows if you can just add the exterior switch to open your liftgate on a 2022 Tundra at the rear brake light. If so, what are the part numbers that I need to buy?

I'd also like to know. I can't understand why this is only available on limited and higher models. I do know that where the botton would be located makes it integrated into the tail light. Can' it be as simple as upgrading the tail light?

I really don’t see the point, besides a fancy look at me gizmo. The fuckin key fob has a tailgate button. How many ways does a guy need to open a tailgate?? I’ve done fine with one for many years.

If you go to a restaurant and by a T-bone steak can I buy a chicken fried steak and still get the T-bone. I mean really do you need to ask why a vehicle that cost more has more options than a cheaper trim. I didn't spend a extra 10-15k just for a platinum name plate.

New cars all going towards the keyless way. Just keep key fob in pocket and can unlock the vehicle without pulling out the key fob. The point is if you’re carrying something with both hands. Keys in pocket. You can just bump the switch in taillight to open tailgate. Not necessary but a convenience thing. :)

I have found the tailgate release in the tail light handy on a few occasions. I've used my elbow with hands full as advertised.

Exactly. I don't see it as a "fancy look at me gizmo." Not sure why that guy felt the need to be a condescending prick, but to each their own. I have used that button more than I have used the handle or the key fob. Whole point of that key fob is so it never has to come out of your pocket short of remote start. It is literally designed so you can keep your hands free to unlock your truck, start your truck, lock your truck, and open the tail gate. I cannot even count the number of times I've carried something using both hands and just bumped the tail light button with my elbow. I find it quite useful. Maybe they don't have the button, or even the truck, so they feel the need to passively denigrate those of us who do.

It’s call sarcasm. Lighten up Francis. I tested a limited. But I don’t want a sun roof or a pano, so I stuck with an SR5. The bump switch isn’t something I would use. That’s it. My keys are typically out of my pocket when I’m leaving somewhere so I’d just hit the tailgate button on the fob. Yes I am an asshole, but I wasn’t being an asshole about this

    ya this ^

I though that was pretty cool and looking forward to it if/when I get my platinum

hands full, bump it with your elbow instead or setting all your shit down and digging in your pocket for the fob

    really smart!!

Same when loading stuff for a dump run - but I also realized that it's dumb to have the switch only on the drivers' side, and NOT on the passenger side. The passenger side marker lights are soft and flexy too, so I pushed them hard with my elbow trying to get the gate down :rofl:

I thought the same thing until 10,000 miles into owning thw truck and I’ve used it 5x more than the traditional ways of opening it.

Hey, I am waiting on mine to show up so I thought I would ask this group. Does the tailgate lock? I’m assuming it’s a near field lock with the fob but I want to know if I out the bed cover on do I have a secure “trunk”? I got plans

All i care is that this is locked when the vehicle is locked.. i can always find a way to unlock if i need to put something in the truck bed. tail gate got stolen 2x on tacoma so I did not care how easy it will be to open. all I care it that it stays locks more.

Definitely I am planning to put a wire or something so it still does not drop all the way because it could still hit a young child
