Trying to decide on a rear bumper. I think Pelfreybilt looks the best. Powdercoated, it would run $1400 + shipping ($1500-1600).

The Fab Fours also looks nice. Very close to the Pelfreybilt. I could probably get it for around $1200, including shipping, if I wait for a sale.

The P&P still looks good, but maybe a little bulkier than the other two. The major plus on the P&P would be a swing out jerry can holder. I would get it without the swing out tire holder. Price would be about $1500, shipped.

I like the Expedition One with swing outs, but it's well over $2000. I'd probably also have to pay sales tax since they are in state.

Any others similar bumpers I should consider?

I agree about the pelfrey bumper, it’s definitely the least intrusive out of all of them, and looks the best, but that’s just my opinion.

Something to keep in mind, from a visual perspective, the P&P and expedition one both “look” like they hang a little bit lower than the pelfrey. Our trucks already have a huge ass, they don’t need help negatively affecting departure angle even further.

Yea, the P&P definitely looks like it hangs the lowest. The other shots of the Expedition aren't too bad, but it looks like their model truck has a pretty significant lift.

    @UTTundra
In addition to departure angle I would want to compare the weight of all 3.
Interested to see what you decide!

Good call. Weight is definitely a concern. I asked P&P awhile ago and they didn't respond. The Fab Fours is listed at 115 lbs. I'll try to find out on the Pelfreybilt and Expedition.

The Pelfreybilt front bumper has a nice steel/aluminum hybrid design and only weights 100. I think the rear is all steel.

Based purely on aesthetics, I like the Pelfrey best. I would think that a good fab guy could help you create the swing out later if decide you want 'em.

Really good call! This should play as big of a role in our already stupid heavy trucks.

If only the pelfrey stuck out just a tad more forwards to protect the bedside more and I would be all over it, like white on rice.

I have been able to get the weight (albeit, approximately) by taking the bumper i was interested in all the way through checkout. When they get to shipping costs they usually provide the weight. Not exact, but close, because of the crate.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on a response. They’re probably trying to find random nuts, bolts, and plates to resend to existing customers that can’t finish their current installs. My sliders came with nothing but Saran Wrap, beat up corners, Missing nuts, washers, and WAY LATE, due to “I have to train the new guy how to ship sliders!”

[OBVIOUSLY], I’m not complaining, but I will say that since mine were installed I’ve heard the same horse shit from multiple people, and also had to walk 4 through the install due to no instructions, support, or enough pieces.

@joonbug and @dcsleeper408 have heard me privately bitch about this enough they won’t even return my messages any longer....

My vote....Pelfreybilt for the win. Fab Fours are sold in 4WP. Just sayin :D

Haha, yea I was one of those people that you had to help on those P&P slider install due to wrong hardware. Pretty ridiculous. 3 months for sliders. Figure the bumper would take 3 years.

I walked into a 4WP once. Walked out in less than a minute. Pelfreybilt it is!

I know! I just didn’t say it aloud. Granted, a bumper is not a set of sliders, they’ve still not earned my return business.

I’m not opposed to 4WP, I just wouldn’t have them do any real work on my truck unless it was Hattori...but I’d be happy to take their discounts and install myself. After taxes and discounts my front NFAB was just under $900. That being said, they don’t advertise on their walls with NFAB, nor does it look like a massive diaper that blocks the color of my truck. I wish I had a pic of the red Taco I saw today with a Ranch Hand front bumper.... @matluth i don’t discredit the Ranch Hand, just that it doesn’t belong on a 3rd Gen Tacoma

Ranch Hands look good on full size trucks. Not sure id want one on a Taco. Didn't realize they made one for the Taco.

Out of the 3 given I would choose pelfrey, but if I was choosing a bumper I’d go with SDHQ’s front bumper as it gives more clearance for bigger tires plus a better approach angle. Based on your choices, I think you care more about protection, I’ve found that SDHQ and NFAB bumpers provide the best approach and departures.

I have always liked the swing out design the expedition one looks good. But if you just don't need and or want a swing out then the pelfreybilt.

I have the Fab 4. I really wish it had light cut outs but other than that it has been fine. I waited for a sale and picked it up for under 1K delivered.

I actually have an N-Fab up front that I love. I don't know if SDHQ makes a rear tube-style bumper. If someone could make a light weight tube-style rear bumper that also has a swing out for jerry cans/rotopax, I'd be all over that. Pelfreybilt said they are unable to do custom work right now, but they might end up making swing outs for the Tundra down the road.

I came across this bumper made by MCMFab @M C M a few years ago and asked him about making something similar. Unfortunately, every bumper he builds is custom to each truck, so he can't really build and ship.

I'm talking to another fabricator in SLC (Dosecc Fab) about something with a swing out. They're in the process of making one for Tacoma, then they'll do one for Tundras.

I actually would really like a swing out for jerry cans/rotopax. I sleep under the topper on trips, so I won't put fuel back there. I might have to give more thought to the Expedition One. Unfortunately, it's really expensive. I don't know if I do enough trips where I need extra fuel to justify that price tag. They did a $200 off $1000 orders a couple years ago. I'll have to keep an eye out for another sale.

There is a member here I don't remember who. That added a swing out from a jeep to his after market bumper he did a bolt on and it came out looking really good.
