Can installing rear bumper LED (flush mount) interfere with the parking sensors or the BSM?
Talking about the bright LED lights that you install inside the rear bumper. How close can you get to the sensors?
I remember something about the Toyota recall for changing the rear bumper brackets to steel and iirc, it was causing some issues and they had to recalibrate the sensors ...
Anyway I am curious about the proximity of the sensors to the LED lights and the housing.

I’m installing some Baja Design flush mounts next week. I will let you know if I run into any issues.

I had that recall done and it was to replace the POS original resin mounting bracket. The bumper corners broke very easily. and I heard they would break if you loaded the corner... say by climbing on it. But back to the BSM. They point outward and to the side, and as far as I know, the only issue is with metallic material interfering with the radar on the outward face. Thus the open metal frame with a BSM window covered by the plastic bumper cover. I have not heard of any electronic interference. The recall fix was a great improvement. But the bumper corner is okay to climb on, but still essentially useless. I had a lady tap my rear corner and it just pushed it into the side panel and broke a weld. Repair shop replaced the corner and installed a whole new panel $4500 later... looks great. The Same BSM has been through three versions of this, two resin and the most recent and never have any issues. Love the BSM. As far as recalibration, I have read that and was told that by the dealer but I think it’s BS. I have had those In and out both front and back, even when they told me they were broken and needed replacing for 750$, I replaced the harness and they all fired up like new and I have never had any issue, ... but for very seldom, a thin coating of ice will trigger a false reading on a parking sensor.

going to hijack my own thread … ;)

so you have heard that even stepping on the corners may break the resin mounting?
i was under impression that if there is some sort of an impact (minor bump/accident) in that corner, it would weaken the resin and then you have to worry about stepping on it. As a result, i didn't bother with doing the recall since i didn't want them to mess with the bumper and sensors … i have read stories of misaligned bumpers and/or issues with the BSM, etc. after the recall work.

hahaha, funny. I installed the second resin one myself and it broke right off. Granted it was a real tap.
You are right about the recall and the glitches, at least in my experience. it was raining when they got done and didn’t show it to me in the shop. I would have had a fit! The spacing was atrocious. It was out about 1.5 inches out on both sides. Live and learn. I left and figured I would adjust it myself. They also told me two parking sensors were bad... I ordered two aftermarket, but for grins I removed and reconnected them all and they worked fine... still are. It’s not a supper complicated recall. Just remove all the covers and bolt on metal replacements, but essentially they take apart most of the bumper and there is the rub. No attention to detail nor skill. I wouldn’t trust them to do anything that isn’t under warranty. We have two big local Toyota dealers and my experience has been the same.
