I was installing the bed step the other day and notice both the end caps are very misaligned. No sign of previous accident, nothing in carfax prior to purchasing. But you can clearly see how bad of a gap it looks. Is there away for diyer to correct this or does it need to be done by the dealership? I live too far from the nearest dealership. Over 2 hrs.
Here are photos of each side.

I decided to take matters into my into my own hands and will try to remedy this issue.
Turns out you CAN align the rear end cap.
After watching couple of YouTube videos on how to remove the rear bumper i went and tackle it.
Once you remove the plastic cover, the end caps are exposed. There are 4 bolts that needs to be either removed or loosen. I was able to remove 1 and loosen 2. The 3rd couldnt get to because i dont have a shallow socket that would fit. Therefore, i left it. See photo below of which to loosen and remove.
Once loosen and removed, all i had to do was reach onto the outer edge of the end caps where the pointy section is and gave it a pull toward the rear of the bumper. That’s all it took to get it back to alignment. Now i can fit both fingers in the gap. See photos. Glad this was simple to fix. It was driving me crazy.

in my case the 1 bolt that had to be removed would not go back in because it would not line up since the end cap was moved over. Therefore, i had to use a dremel with a metal cutting bit to enlarge the hole so it would line up straight. This way the bolt can be reused.
See photo below, clearly tell it is no longer line up.

So, i am not sure if the end cap were predrilled incorrectly from factory? Once it was bolted down it causes major misalignment. See first post , i couldn’t even get a finger in the gap. But on the passenger side was just fine.

    hope this helps someone later.
