First time posting, need some help with my first Toyota. I bought a 2010 Double Cab 4x4 SR5 with 87,000 on the clock a couple weeks ago. Both rear bearings were bad, I knew it before I signed for the loan, and used it to negotiate a good price on the truck. I usually do my own mechanic work, but I have been short on time lately and decided to take it to a local shop I've used before. They've had the truck for 2 weeks and are now saying they have to take the axles to a rear end specialist to press the old bearings off and install the new bearings on the axles.

I've watched the procedure on Youtube, and read the repair guides, it doesn't seem to be this hard of a job with the proper tooling. Am I missing something? Is it that much of a pain? Do these bearings fail often? A little insight from other owners would be appreciated.

Maybe someone forgot to pull up on the indentation on the axle nut and destroyed the threads???

Thanks for all the input. Hopefully I get the truck back the next couple of days.
