Hey there, in the process of needle scaling everything metal ( ish) and got to the rear drums, just for the needle scaler to go right through a few areas of that lip around the rear of the drum ( not through the actual inside drum brake area, just the lip.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems replacing this involves replacing the whole axle lol? It doesn't seem to me like it's an actual seal for the brakes or anything, just seems like it goes around the drums? Thoughts?

It's a backing plate, drum hardware and shoes mount to it.

Couple holes on the edges only, no big deal?

Looks like it's about $120 for each side. Tread with caution on those rear drums. With mine I ended up replacing a bunch of stuff when I did the bearings. It was all worn out.

Change them out whenever you plan to do the rear wheel bearings. You’ll need a 20 ton stand up hydraulic press for that though and a specialized adapter to hold them to get it off or you’ll have to make your own.
