So I recently got the Kenwood DMX1057XR HU with Maestro RR2 installed in my 2019.

I'm real happy with it, but one of the features/reasons I did it was the ability to monitor ATF temps since I don't have the external trans cooler.

Sadly, Transmission Fluid Temperature is grayed out in the available gauges and doesn't display anything.

The stereo shop who did it contacted Maestro and they were told that my 2019 doesn't transmit that data point to the CAN so that feature is unavailable.

Can those of you who are reading trans temps please respond with:

    1. What year Tundra do you have?

    2. What device(s) you're using to monitor? (HU w/Maestro, Scangauge, OBD module w/App, etc.)

I don't regret getting the (ridiculously expensive) Kenwood 'cuz it's awesome, but there may be some people who would base their purchasing decision on this knowledge. Might save people some money or buyer's remorse.

Is anybody getting trans temps on their HU w/Maestro in a 2019?

My '08 is read via a scan gaugeII.

I do have the trans cooler package. I do know when programing the SCII, I had to use the x code for a 1999 truck. The '08 code didn't work. I think Toyota has several vendors for the sensors and whatever is in the parts bin is what gets installed.

I also have a '21 with no trans cooler. I haven't driven it enough or towed with it. Eventually I will want to monitor the vitals, but drive the '08 mostly, so it hasn't been a priority.

I also have the Maestro RR2, but with an Alpine HU. Same results, trans temps are not available selections for the gauges on the HU, but I can read and log them via any other scanner that connects to the same diagnostics CAN bus via OBD2. If it's available via any other tool, it should be available through the Maestro...I would contact their support directly, might be a firmware update that fixes it, or you can submit a feature request.

I think you should be able to read trans temp. Is the Maestro RR2 plugged into the OBD2 port? There’s a separate harness with only 2 or 3 wires that plugs into the OBD2 port.

My Dad and I both have Kenwood HUs and RR2s and can read trans temps, only
difference is his RR2 is plugged into the OBD2 port on his 2010. You don’t need this on 20-21 trucks. You also have to flash the correct model year software onto the RR2.

@SD Surfer - go to the settings menu in the HU then gauges. Select Validate PIDs. You can now see your ATF temp.

@Terndrerrr , I very recently learned that the OBD Fushion app works with Carplay. And you can display probably everything to your head unit that you can to your phone, but only in a very simple written line display.

I just got a Sony HU with the rr2 and I can’t see the trans temps on it either but my scan gauge can see it. I’ve tried validating PID’s a couple of times as well. Glad I’m not the only one.

Currently using scan gauge 2. Next is an extra capacity pan from PML and an analog gauge for pan temps. Banks makes a really nice digital unit, but I can't recall the name they label it with.

    Edit: Banks Idash...very cool!

I scrolled over while driving and saw that yes, it will display through CarPlay, but it was only coolant temp, vehicle speed, and remaining fuel.

I keep forgetting to mess with it when I’m parked. I’d love for it to display all of the 2021 Toyota PIDs I paid for.

So this is interesting... RR2 "taps in" to the harness, whereas the Scangauge (if I'm not mistaken) plugs into the OBD port.

I wonder if there's any significance to this.

I think the Maestro can be tapped or plugged into the harness. If so, I wonder if it would read them when plugged in.

You can plug the Maestro RR2 into the OBD2 port, it is shown in the install manual.

Well there goes that theory. :(

Yeah, I know you "can", I just meant that most install shops (or at least mine) typically tap into the harness in order to leave the port open.

A "y" splitter can be used to allow an open port.

Ah, I was wondering if your shop just left that out. Seems like you should be able to see transmission temperature though, I know it works on a 2010 Tundra. It’s probably a software thing with Maestro then.

It sounds like it may be a year by year thing.

If anyone with a 2019 is getting trans temps on a head unit, please chime in!

Here’s the response I got from maestro today when I asked.

    Hi,

You can try going in the radio and validating the PIDs on the vehicle. It'll be in the radio menu, something like this:

OEM Setup > Maestro Features > Gauges > Validate PIDs.

If that doesn't light it up, we're not seeing the universal PID on network for Trans Temp and won't be able to display it.

    Thanks,

Here's how the ODB Fushion app displays through Carplay. Of course you can set it up to see many items, these are just the one's I want.

This is intriguing... Do you know if there's a similar function in Android Auto?

How exactly does Carplay get it on the screen?
