What type of primer should be used for repainting cast aluminum rims..?

I bought an older set of aluminum Tundra rims that I want to use for winter snow tires.
Wire wheel and sanded the flaking, bubbling original finish off as best i could.

I'm not a paint guy, so a friend offered to re-paint the rims for me, but he is not sure what type of primer to start with to re-finish the raw cast aluminum.

I'm in New York, so the rims will be subject to harsh road salt conditions.

    Any input is appreciated.

Not a paint guy either but didn't think Aluminum was good to paint. Powder coating may be a much better option.

Do research on cleaning aluminum for paint first, then get a good DTM (direct to metal) epoxy for step one. Then paint with whatever you want, I recommend base coat clear coat. But as stated earlier powder coating would be best for wheels.
