I've read multiple posts. Can't figure out how to fix problem. Admittedly I know zilch about automobiles. I've been told this is the skid plate that is very loose, but when I shove rubber pieces above it, the noise continues....

Did you take skid plate off yet to eliminate that?

Since your truck is idling, my bet would be a loose catalytic converter heat shield. That's what it sounds like to me.

Ya just gotta get under there n look around.

+3 for go down your exhaust and see if one of the shield bolts is loose. Happened to mine.

The skid plate is HEAVY steel so the sound it would make by a "tap tap" would be deeper and less "tinny" would probably sound more like a solid ping.

Sounds like the heat shield on your catalytic converter to me.

Check for loose bolts on it. On my truck, the bolts broke, and the previous owner had some long hose clamps put on it to hold it on. That's pretty easy to do.

Sounds very thin and metallic. No way it's the skid plate. But it's 5 bolts to remove the skid plate, so easy to remove that to confirm. But before you do ...

If you look in your engine bay and up under the vehicle, you'll notice some thinner, shiny alloy looking metal stamped plates that cover the manifolds and other exhaust components and/or shield sensitive parts from the heat of those components.

If your hands are sensitive to heat, put a glove on. While the truck is cold, start it up. Get under the truck where you're taking that video, behind the driver wheel. Listen around for the sound, and put your hand on the various heat shields you see on the exhaust pipes. If the sound goes away when your hand is on it, that's your problem shield. Tighten it up.

    Some examples of heat shields:

The first pic reminded me. One of my shields had a failed tack and that's where it was rattling.

That's when you bust out the tarry sealant and sandwich it between the two pieces.

    Or the sheetmetal screw!

Had the same issue months ago; the heat shield was the issue. It made contact w/the skid plate and rattled like crazy.

Appreciate responses. I placed 2 hose clamps around catalytic converter heat shield which helped immensely!! Thank you. I still get a periodic rattle similar to youtube vid. Not nearly as loud as it was, but every now and then I still hear it. I will have to search around for another loose covering.....

Awesome! Did you clip the ends off the hose clamps? The previous owner who did that on my truck did not clip the ends, and left 6" of clamp sticking out which vibrated like crazy.
