Hello Tundie Fam! I finally got a rig. 2021 Limited in SSM. Like many I was on months on end search for a "Unicorn" 20-21' TRD PRO here in southern California with not avail. So I came across this private party sale. Original owner super clean 35k miles and it had $10k + of aftermarket goodies of which I was planning on doing anyways down the road. As it took past a TRD Pro level imo. So I decided to forgo a TRD Pro as this rig had many of the things I was going to do anyways. I'm super stoked and won't be changing anything other than probably selling the Snugtop camper shell in the future for a Tonneau cover. I wasn't stoked on the chrome initially but TBH it's kinda growing on me. I think chrome looks best on SSM. I know there's a ton of threads about chrome deletes on here but the more I dig into the more complicated it seems I know spark parts has the color matched hood bulge and believe they only carry the color match grille assembly with the "platinum" grille insert? I think that's the same one it already has? I would also have to buy the TRD PRO grille insert & garnish to make it work. Seems like a lot of cheese idk. Does anyone know if I can get a OEM platinum honeycomb grille assembly in SSM? That way I can use my TSS emblem. My other thoughts were taking it to a local body shop and having them paint the bulge & surround matte black & keep my current insert for a different take haven't seen many in that combo. Pair it with matte black front bumper end cap covers. Any ways I love to hear what you guys think. Should i have held out for a TRD PRO?

Painting chrome parts usually does not turn out well, and most shops won't even do it for that reason. Otherwise, you scored a nice truck. If there is anything that you want to eventually buy for it, @memario1214 at Hotshot Offroad is our forum go to guy. His customer service is truly tough to beat!

Unless you like waiting, you get while the getting is good. Looks like a great truck and you can make it your own how you like it.

You should be able to get it from Toyota. I was able to get my honeycomb grill and hood bulge in white from them.

Looks nice. I’d give it a 9 outa 10. If it was black it would be a 10. I say that because mine is black. I like black trucks. Just my opinion. :D

9.5 out of 10. I agree with you. I also believe the chrome compliments the SSM very well. I'd say leave it like that for a while & enjoy it. You can always color match it down the road. Congrats on the new ride!

Congrats on the new rig, she looks sweet!

I will warn you however about Sparks Parts and their paint matched stuff. If it comes OEM in a color, go for it. However if they have to paint match, run to the hills!!! I had a VERY unpleasant experience with my Cement 21 Limited when I went with their TRD Pro grill. They didn't make the later version grill in Cement, only the hood bulge. My grill isn't very close on color match, and it doesn't seem like they prepped the white under it, it's only been on for 6 months and it chips very easily, showing the white under it. My assumption is instead of prepping the white, they simply sprayed over top of it. That and I got a ton of run around on lead time.

If I were to do it all over again today, I'd order the white grill and bulge (if not OEM painted already) and take it to a local shop.

ANY chrome knocks down the rating by at least 3.7 points. I would rate this a 6.1 out of 10. Add black mirror covers and color matched hood bulge, bumper end caps and mustache and you got a winner!!!!

Unfused #00 positive cable with no loom laying atop grounded metal parts? This will put your truck on fire quicker than you can shit your pants.

Keep the shell. They are very expensive in post-COVID times. Maybe you fall in love with your truck so much that you decide to travel up north, where water free falling from skies happens. Or your bowel decides to move amid tundra forest, but you are not quick enough to do it in under 2 seconds and walk away with only fifty black flies bites.

How much did he charge you? How long does it take? Did you take apart the grille and bring it in? Or do they just do everything?

I forget how much he charged but it wasn’t that much just tell him you know James with the Toyota trucks they do it fast like in a day or two and you can just take the truck and they’ll take everything off or you can bring him the parts, the grill and front parts are super easy to take off like 10 minutes
