Brakes in the subject title gave my question away didn't it?

I'm just curious if the Tundra brakes are similar to the 4Runner in emergency situations? I remember the first time a car pulled out in front of the 4R and I jumped on the brakes - initiating total lockdown mode. I didn't know/expect it to react that way - almost had to throw away that pair of underwear after my eyes settled back into their sockets... Does the Tundra react the same way? Would like to know so I'm not surprised (or disappointed) by it.

    Thanks!

Ah, yes indeed. Slammed on the brakes with no notice doing a test drive and let's just say the brakes are DEFINITELY up to the task.

Also, I had to change my underwear.

The 4R has some kind of program that senses how quickly you are applying the brake - if you gently apply and increase pressure, it reacts like any other car on the road. However, if you stab them quickly (as in an emergency stop situation) it multiplies the braking force suddenly - and you stop much quicker than expected (mine likes to lock up the rears and make a bunch of noise too). Think of it as "Beast Mode" for the braking system. It's definitely different than any other vehicle I've driven.

The Tundra is only my second Toyota, so I wasn't sure if that feature is a Toyota thing across the line, only in their trucks/BOF SUV's, or 4R specific.

I had a 2014 4R limited. I know the emergency braking issue you’re talking about. The tundra is nowhere near as easy to engage that “feature”. I’ve had it engage a couple times on my tundra with the factory rotors and pads but it’s not as dramatic at all.

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.

Its called Brake Assist. Has been around since about 2001. My 01 Limited 4Runner has it. It doesn't 'mulitply' brake force, it senses brakes have been applied quickly and forcefully. If the brakes were not applied hard enough to go to the ABS limit, the Brake Assist system takes it to the Limit of ABS and pulls back slightly, my definition, read the official one below.

Listed for first time in 2001 for my 4Runner! That's a 3rd Gem for those who don't know...Does it work, hell yeah!!

After putting 5100s and OME springs up front, my 4Runner doesn’t do the jarring nose dive anymore. One time when I was riding on the soft stock suspension, I hit the brakes because someone stopped suddenly in front of me. The front end of my 4Runner crunched so hard I thought I broke something major. Freaked me out.

well driving my 14 LE 4R and driving the 18 Plat Tundra, i can tell the brakes are slightly touchy in the tundra than the 4R. took a while to get use to the tundra but that could be the 4yr difference between braking systems.
