What’s up everyone! I’m new to the page, just wondering everyone’s mindset on the possibility of a buy I was looking to make. The truck is 2012 crewmax SR5 with 170k on the dash. Seems high for me. What’s everyone’s thoughts ?

I bought my 2007 with 188k on the clock and put 70k on it in less than 3 years. Sure I had to replace some things but nothing too crazy.

Has the truck been taken care of is the big question, imo. And does the price reflect the higher mileage....

The truck is priced at 16K and the dealer says it’s been WELL taken care of, and the photos of the interior reflect on the cosmetic side of it

    Alot of them
It looks clean. Have them replace the rubber insert where the antenna goes. Of course a dealer will tell you it was well taken care of....they want to make a sale.

Yes the mileage might be little high but honestly that is nothing for these trucks as long it was properly maintained. Check for maintenance records. I would have no problem buying with that mileage as long as everything looks solid. I sold my 08 with 160k. I had no issues with it. And I'm sure the new owner is enjoying it trouble free also.

Have an independent shop look it over. If the antenna mount was too much trouble to bother with, what else do you think they didn't do? I bought an 08 that's the same color as yours and also a CM, and it had a broken antenna. It also had other broken bits and pieces that were hard to find until I had owned the truck for a month or two.

Price seems high for that truck with 170k miles. Think it should be priced several thousands less. Bottom line is a vehicle with 170K on the clock is going to need some things, so take that into account.

Bought mine at 180k, at 240k now and only thing that has broken was the starter at 215k. Tundras will run forever.

If well taken care pull the Toyota website maintenance record online with the VIN.. will tell you yay or nay, or request it through them, they should be able to pull it... then you can go from there... I have an 07 5.7 SR5 DC long bed, 227k original owner... water pump, starter and a shit load of batteries, including Optimas...

Not sure where you are, but here on the Alabama Gulf Coast, this is the KBB Private Party value, which is usually less than buying from a dealer. Based on this, it may be a pretty decent deal. It also depends on options:

I bought my 2002 Tundra new and it now has about 275,000 miles. Prior to 250,000 miles, I had no major issues other than scheduled maintenance, which included 3 timing belt / water pump replacements. I did develop a radiator leak at about 200,000 miles, after a timing belt / water pump replacement at about 190,000 miles. I also replaced universal joints and central support at about 190,000 miles.

At 250,000 miles or so, the transmission failed and I replaced it with a Toyota rebuilt unit. This unit had a 10,000 miles and/or 12 months warranty. The Toyota rebuilt unit failed after 18,000 miles and I had a new Toyota rebuilt unit installed last week. The shop owner argued with Toyota at a transmission failing at 18,000 miles but Toyota would not budge. The shop owner installed a the new Toyota rebuilt unit with the same 12 month / 10,000 mile warranty and gave me a rebate of half the installation labor ($475).

At 255,000 miles, the rack and pinion power steering unit failed and I had a rebuilt unit installed. 20,000 miles later, it is working perfectly.

I have had to replace the brake master cylinder twice and have the entire air conditioning system rebuilt.

At about 190,000 miles, the Tundra developed a vibration in the drive line. The Toyota dealer said I had a bent rear axle and a damaged differential. They said that they put the Tundra on a lift and could see the rear wheel vibrate. The repair cost was about $6,000. I had an independent shop review the problem. They put the Tundra on a lift and ran the engine to about 30 mph with no vibration. The independent shop sent the drive line off to a shop that did custom work for off road vehicles and over the road trucks. The shop found that the front half of the drive shaft was out of balance (Tundras have a 2 piece drive shaft) and sent the drive shaft back to my original shop. My independent shop replaced the front half of the drive shaft with a new unit, replaced all 3 universal joints and the central support for $790. The truck runs as smooth as a sewing machine. The dealer lied to me. I bought three new vehicles from that dealer and have not been back since.

I had the headlights replaced as the lenses were badly glazed over. The Toyota dealer polished the lenses once for $75 and gave me a lifetime warranty. Within a year, the lenses were starting to glaze over again. I did not go back to the Toyota dealer.

I had the upper and lower control arms, tie rod ends, assorted bushings, etc. replaced last week. The ball joints were fine. Two years ago, I replaced the shocks and struts. The Tundra drives like new.

I recently bought seat covers from Carhartt that are a joy to sit on. The original leather seats were developing a few cracks but were still serviceable.

A mechanic at the independent shop offered me $11,000 for the truck. I love my Tundra and did not accept.

The Tundra now sits in my driveway solid as a rock, fun to drive and paid for. I bought the Tundra Limited new in October, 2001 for $26,500 (sticker was about $31,000). I could afford to buy a new Tundra and pay cash but i am not stupid enough to leave the best vehicle I have ever owned.

I have not had a truck payment since 2005.

That is high for the year, but if it's been well cared for it doesn't matter. Make sure you know the true value since you're shopping at a dealership. They say it's been well cared for, do they have records to prove that?

I appreciate everyone’s replies! The truck is supposed to be sold Saturday :( but I’m still looking if anyone knows of anything solid in the Texoma area!

Don't let a dealer stress you out! If it sells then it wasn't the one. Be patient and you'll find the right truck for you. Mine took six months to find.

I bought my 2007 with 270,000 miles, and it's just about to hit 300,000

I bought it from a private individual, and I didn't pay all that much for it.

Keep shopping, and try to find a 1st or 2nd owner private seller.

If you must have a newer truck, shop for a CPO truck at a Toyota dealership.
You can get financing, and you get a great warranty.

When you buy a used Toyota truck with very high millage, you IMO are buying a truck that can be repaired and give good service. Toyota vehicles are IMO very well designed and reliable. I gave up on Toyota service years ago as IMO, they are overpriced, lack technicians experienced with major repairs and are best suited with providing warranty service on newer vehicles.

Over the years, I have established a relationship with an independent shop with people I can trust.

Bought my 2011 DC before Thanksgiving for $19k with 160k'ish miles. It was well taken care of with records and receipts. I don't think $16k is too high for that truck if it's in good condition with papers or maintenance history to back it up.

Bought a Sequoia with 160, sold it a few yrs later with 240 because would have cost more than it was worth to fix – just wear and tear stuff (suspension). But also NE/snow vehicle.

I recently had the shop that has taken care of my 2002 Tundra Access Cab 4.7 V8 inspect the front suspension. The ball joints were good but the upper and lower control arms and assorted bushings were badly worn and were replaced. Last year I had the tie rod ends replaced. After the work was done, they aligned the front suspension. The shocks and struts were replaced two years ago. In sum, the Tundra with almost 275,000 miles on the clock drives and feels like a new vehicle. I have not had a truck payment since 2005 and i like it that way.

    Tundras last!
