I just ordered all the parts to start doing my own oil changes. The oem aluminum housing came today and upon inspection seems to have a plastic plug inside. Does this have to be removed prior to installation? Seems like it would plug the flow of oil…….but what do I know?

That is not a plastic plug, it is a stamped metal piece that blocks oil flow until you put a drain tool in. It stays in there.

Don't forget to swap the tube.

Where did you order that from? The big part that needs to be swapped out is the perforated tube that supports the filter itself.

OK thanks very much. And to swap the tube you bend the tabs at the bottom and twist to remove, correct? I have the fumoto 133N drain valve as well. What do you mean by drain tool? Sorry new to this DIY oil thing.....

Ordered online from a dealer. Here is a picture of the other side. Are you saying that I have to remove the metal tube? Or swap it out next time I do an oil change?

No, this allows you to empty the housing of any oil before you remove so you don't make as big of a mess. There is a tool that you can buy, that you screw into there to control the flow of oil. I find it is a better/cleaner option than the plastic piece that comes with the filters, which serve the same purpose.

That one looks to be the correct height. If your order from Amazon, it comes with three different tubes based on your application.

Swap metal perforated tube with your existing one from the plastic cap. Bend the tabs down with a small flat head screwdriver, push in a bit on the tube and twist it out.

If this is the correct height I can use the one installed here, or no?

There should be a cap that screws in there.

Yes I have that too - and there is a crush fiber washer and o-ring that goes there as well correct?

you'll know pretty quickly if the perforated tube will need to be swapped when you do the oil change, the one that typically comes in the aluminum housing is much shorter than the one meant for the Tundra filter

Post a side shot so that we can see the tube length. The tube should be about the same length as the filter. The drain tool that was referred to is the MotivX. You can get the whole kit which includes the drain adapter and tube for the filter, the filter wrench, and a screw in funnel.
The Fumoto comes with a drain tube as well.

so do I screw the fumoto into the drain plug threading? I don’t have the filters yet - they haven’t been delivered. I ordered the Toyota removal tool already. I looked at the jowett stuff and motivx but wasn’t going to spend that kind of money. This will do once I know what I am doing. Appreciate the help guys. Here is a side shot

That tube is too short. Yes the Fumoto replaces the drain plug.

Definitely the wrong tube for tundra, you need to swap yours in from the old one.

Your tube should look like this once you swap it out and remove the short one.

Ok great; thanks all. So at my next interval, I will:

    1. Drain oil and remove filter
    2. Install fumoto valve in the oil pan.
    3. Remove the perforated tube from the old filter housing and put in the new aluminum housing
    4. Place o-rings and new filter in the housing (dab o-rings with oil)
    5. Screw in new aluminum filter housing according to torque specs.
    6. Make sure to close fumoto valve at oil pan
    7. Fill with 0w-20 oil (I believe I read it is 7.4 quarts????)

    that should work
Get ready for the 0w-20 to come rushing out, I made a serious mess all over my passenger tire and ground on my first oil change, glad I had the Fumoto vlave ready to go in at that time so I didn't have to worry about that happening again.

Yea, Fumoto valve is worth its weigth in gold since it will get very messy once you remove the drain plug haha. I would suggest old towels and rags be handy when you do get under the truck
